Why are you redesigning the site?
From the beginning, DVD Verdict has been a family run operation, a labor of love for everyone involved. We have no studio or corporate backing, no one draws a salary, and all the money we earn through Amazon referrals and advertising goes to cover our expenses. For the first two years, Sean McGinnis -- who created DVD Verdict back in 1999 -- hand coded each and every page of content. Turning the site over to Mike Jackson in 2001, Verdict established a database-driven approach, leveraging Mike's strengths as a programmer. Many new features and enhancements have been added over the years, but we never had the time or the resources to integrate all those pieces into one cohesive operation. When Mike retired in 2007, our tech-saviness was dramatically reduced, and attempts to grow Verdict using in-house resources were met with much teeth gnashing and hair pulling. This year, being our 10th Anniversary, we reached a decision point: euthanize Verdict and move onto other creative projects, or bite the bullet and invest heavily in a total reboot of the operation -- not just a slick graphical facelift, but a complete restructuring of how we create and distribute content.
We chose the reboot, and have enlisted the services of Firebelly Design to help make it happen. Since our origins are Chicago-based, it made sense to partner with a Chicago design firm whose imaginations and inventiveness are in line with our own. Together, we will be merging all of the Verdict properties -- DVD, TV, Cinema, Pixel, and a new Blu-ray Verdict -- under one roof (The Daily Verdict), giving each the identity, care, and attention they deserve. Within this one Verdict approach we're embedding something we haven't had before -- a sense of community; making it interactive space in which to share your thoughts and passions about movies, television, and more. Don't worry, our reviews and irreverance will remain front and center as the backbone of our content, but they'll finally be enhanced by many of suggestions we've received over the years and been unable to act upon.
We're excited about the future and thank you in advance for your donations.
Sincerest Thanks and Happy Holidays!
Chief Justice Michael Stailey, Chief Counsel Melissa Hansen, and the entire Verdict family
