Joel has a masters degree in English literature, but has (happily) sacrificed a future in the academic world in order to instill a love of literature and reading in Canada's youth. To this end, he is currently teaching English and media studies at Southwood Secondary School in Cambridge, Ontario. There, he secretly tries to sneak his love for good film into all areas of the curriculum.
Joel's own movie taste is broad, and he'll watch pretty much anything he can get his hands on. He is becoming increasingly apathetic about the Hollywood money-making machine, but still appreciates when a mainstream film does something right. Most of the time, though, he finds refuge in foreign cinema, especially those coming out of the more exciting and vibrant Asian film industries.
