Judge DossierJudge William Lee
Like many kids of his generation, Judge William Lee was initiated into the magic realm of movies by a certain space adventure of the late 1970s--though it was actually on a re-release run when his parents finally let him go see it. In his teen years, William found company in the works of Kurosawa, Scorsese, and Truffaut. His interest in filmmaking led William to work for a short time in TV and film. After four years in computer animation, he returned to school to finish a BA in English at Simon Fraser University. By then, he had realized watching movies was infinitely more enjoyable than making them. His personal film festival record is 42 screenings in 16 days. There isn't a dying technology that William won't support. He still has a modest collection of laserdiscs including some Criterion titles that have yet to be replicated on DVD. Occasionally, he will print black and white photographs in his chemical darkroom. Take him to a theater with digital projection and William will tell you about the forgotten age of 70mm movies.
