May 17th, 2005 7:40AM It's an old joke, but it stil is humorous..... *pulls out geek card* ...except that not all the lines are exactly correct. They were tweaked to make the "pants" joke work better.
Not Enough Sith
May 16th, 2005 9:05PM As to expected, you've got some very well defined camps surrounding ROTS: You have those that are very excited, those who couldn't care less, those who have no idea what's going on, and those who are sick of all the hype. This last group has certainly popped their heads up here at The Verdict, and it got me thinking that, since I am once again excited about this final Star Wars movie, there hasn't been enough hype for me. Yes, it's been in a ton of magazines, but I certainly don't read nor subscribe to all of them. Sure, it's been getting a lot more press, but once you've read one story you've read them all. And, obviously, there have been more related commercials on TV, but I don't think there have been enough on television. I watch A LOT of TV every week - about 14 hours a week - and I can count on ONE HAND the number of actual TV spots I've seen for ROTS. I'm not kidding: one hand! That's not oversaturation. I just watched an hour of 24, not one Sith spot. Further, the tie-in product commercials have been usually amusing this time around. You have the funny Diet Pepsi commercial with Yoda stealing food and getting his due. There's the Cingular commerical with Chewie not getting his recording right. How about the dark chocolate M&M commerical? And then there's the two Burger King commercials with Darth Vader.... The "I am your uncle" is chuckle-worthy (if kinda stupid), and then the one with Darth and the "Burger King King" staring and breathing at each other is just freaky. Really, who's scarier there? I think I'd rather face Vader than the creepy King guy. If I woke up one morning, opened my blinds, and he was standing there, I'd have a heart attack. (I also heard there's a clever clonetrooper Burger King commerical out there, but I haven't seen that one.) So, in my opinion, I want more Sith hype. It's the LAST Star Wars movie, so flood the airwaves! Let's see those spots every hour, do a trailer or two during sweeps, and keep the clever tie-in commercials a coming. I'm loving it! Forty-eight hours from right now, the twenty minutes of previews and commercials will begin!
John Gulager
May 12th, 2005 8:04PM In watching the final episode of Project Greenlight, the tagline from The Mask seems to be equally applicable to John: From Zero to Hero I think I'm going to make an effort to see Feast, and I'll be interested in seeing what comes of Mr. Gulager in the near future. Good job to the editors of this season. Great, surprising story arc.
Re: "Dogs Vs. Cats" Rebuttal"
April 12th, 2005 1:01PM Hey, I admit that dogs can do some good things for people. And, yes, cats can't do those things....or can they? Has anyone ever tried to train a cat to sniff out a bomb or drugs? I bet they can, and "snootiness" can be overcome. And so what if they get tuna as a treat; dogs get rewards for carrying out their trained behavior too. Regardless, we all know cats are the better choice because dogs make baby Jesus cry.
Re: "Dogs vs. Cats"
April 12th, 2005 12:16PM While a valid point was raised about specially trained dogs, they are the exception to the rule. Your average, garden variety dog simply barks forever, sheds, poops a lot, needs to be walked in the dead of winter, destroys your home with its constant chewing and makes it stink like a wet mutt - talk about a smell that never goes away! Further, I wasn't aware that dogs had the market cornered on "spreading joy to children" or anyone else. Judge Johnson's wife must be an incredibly unique person to be the only human in existence to get joy from a cat. In fact, I'm willing to challenge that assertion (not that Mrs. Johnson is wonderful and unique) and state that cats bring joy to millions of people around the world - not including those delusional types who think it would be fun to hunt them. So once you strip away the rose-colored veneer of the dog lover, cats have a decided advantage in this debate. Go cats!
Re: "Lock and Load"
April 12th, 2005 10:14AM I hate dogs. What is the fascination with these creatures that apparently only know how to incessantly bark at everything and anything yet are too stupid to learn how to use a litterbox? Give me a cat any day. A world without dogs would be a better place. Please send hate mail to:
Sith Spoilers
April 6th, 2005 8:22PM I just don't get why you guys can't wait another month without ruining the movie. Isn't it more satisfying to walk into a theater not knowing exactly how the movie is going to unfold? Why gorge on all the spoilers? True, it's a highly visual movie with tons of eye candy, but save some of the plot complications for the $9.00 you have to plunk down to see the it. I know the basics but I am still avoiding as many spoilers as possible. Spoiling is silly.
Re: "Jean-Luc is back!"
April 2nd, 2005 11:39PM For a minute I thought you were talking about Jean-Luc Picard, then all would be good in the world. But you weren't so it isn't.
Project Greenlight Redux
March 29th, 2005 7:38PM Time to mention this show again because it now appears that Bravo is intent on destroying it. The show itself is fabulous, thanks in grand measure to the stupidity of Gulager. What a moron! Why can't he realize that nepotism is a very bad thing? But we may not see how this all plays out because Bravo is moving the show around a bit too much. For the first two episodes, the show was on at 9:00pm. Tonight, it was moved to 8:00am - which I didn't even know about (so thank goodness they do repeat it 1.5 million times this week), and next week it's on at 10:00pm. OK, why? Bravo, pick a time and let it play. Just because the Queer Guys are in Texas doesn't mean you should shift your entire Tuesday night schedule.
Re: "Two New Products For Morons"
March 29th, 2005 4:12PM Speaking of the "FOX Blocker," did anyone see the excellent episode of Boston Legal that centered around this device? It was a great episode, especially when you take into account how the characters (namely James Spader) ended up defending the blocker given the liberal bias of the show (especially James Spader). To wit, are you watching Boston Legal? It may not have a lot of "legal" to it, but James Spader, William Shatner, and Candice Bergen are incredible! |
