Hey, Brett. Once you listen to it, tell us what you think. I might download it myself.

It's a $7.00 download. Call me when it's .99.

I don't know how the financial arrangement works, but they somehow compensated both Sam Jones and Melody Anderson for this commentary. That is why the $7 price tag. There is also a limited edition DVD set which includes video footage from the session, but that's even more money. I was just interested in the commentary track.

Basically you get Melody and Sam joined by two geeks that run the site (Bob and Kevin) as they watch the recent release of Flash Gordon. Any one who ever wondered if Sam's voice is dubbed, all you have to do is listen to his commentary and you'll know the voice in the film is not his. The track is informative and fun, but it was done in one take. As such it is casual and rough around the edges. It's a nice track - for super fans only. They tell a lot of stories, rib each other, and speculate on some legends of the production. They have a nice pace and only occasionally say "Oh! Look at that!".

It really should have been done for the American release, and both Sam and Melody gripe that Universal would not compensate them for participation.

How is Sam's real voice different? Does he have a nelly affect?

Check out the Big Geeks Stuff podcast featuring Jones and Anderson. It's a fun listen, and you'll see what Brett means.

No, it's much gruffer than I expected. What's funny is in the commentary they do not mention that at all!

Just listened to the relevant section of the podcast. Oh, my, that is some kind of sexy, deep, masculine voice.

Um that voice of Sam's is crazy! Gobear how is that sexy? The man was pretty (he did do the ass shot in My Chauffer) but not the smartest sounding tool in the shed. Melody Anderson is a hoot though! Academy Awards! LOL!!!

Can a voice change that radically - timbre, tone, accent, and delivery? Go back and listen to the movie which I have seen enough times to recite almost verbatim all the way from "Klytus, I'm bored!" to the final Ming laugh. Age certainly deepens the voice, and can sometimes get more raspy. But in this case there is a severe disconnect in every aspect. I don't have a definitive answer here, but most people agree he was dubbed in part if not entirely.

I agree with Addison about Melody, and she sounds "the same!". What a hoot she is. She dominates the commentary. And she does have a point about the costumes and sets - the designer won several Academy Awards for his efforts in other films, and if that movie has anything it is a keen sense of design.
