The Lives of Others

Tidying up some DVDs today, I happened upon The Lives of Others. A thoughtful and moving German film. How did this fare in the USA? My American friends who live in Great Britain complain that American buyers are reluctant to "mainstream" such films in US cinemas. Did The Lives of Others get a proper release? What was the critical and public reaction?

It will be no surprise to you to read that I recommend this film.
