Good to see the long-overdue addition of TESB to the Registry, along with "Airplane' and "The Pink Panther". (Interesting that comedies seem to get more respect from the Registry than from the Oscars.) I'm still waiting for 'The Blues Brothers" and "You Nazty Spy" to be added, though.

Were "Airplane!" and "Pink Panther" set to be inducted? Or did the recent deaths of Leslie Nielsen and Blake Edwards influence them getting picked? If it's the latter I'd sure like to know which two movies got bumped to make room for these two (which are worthy inclusions, mind you, but the timing stands out). "Malcolm X" is the newest of the films inducted (1992), mmmphhh!

Indeed. A worthier film could not have been chosen. I particularly admire the film's subtle religious subtext and its still-relevant commentary on the universal language of athletics.

Good to see they didn't reward Lucas' most appalling act of revisionist history and inducted the THX short film as opposed to the feature-length film which only exists in its original form on VHS.
