How about the other side of this coin?

The Day The Earth Stood Still
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
and the full title of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance
The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters
There Will Be Blood
Night of the Living Dead
Shaun of the Dead
Run Lola Run
The Bird With the Crystal Plumage
In the Mouth of Madness
+1. this is very interesting.

Blade Runner is good, it doesn't really tell you anything but you still feel intrigued.

Jaws is good, it's simple but memorable.

Clockwork Orange has the same quirks as the movie and probably book (I haven't read it). I watched it sight unseen due to the name just to figure out what it was.

My Sister's Keeper, well I haven't seen this one but the name works.

Remains of the Day, I don't know why I like it, I didn't really like the movie but the name and the idea of it are solid.

Rocky Horror Picture Show, is it the name or the power the name carries? I can't be sure.

Gladiator

If it had been called "The Gladiator" (as some people erroneously call it), it just would not work, although I can not articulate why - it is just some inchoate sense that the definite article would change the tone of the title and the film.

I wonder why people think I am pretentious.

The Big Lebowski - It hits on double - awesome title AND awesome movie
And I like The Last Samurai - because you sort of assume because it's a Tom Cruise flick that he's the titular samurai. When in fact the last samurai refers to Ken Watanabe's character, and is also metaphorical for the film itself. I think it's great.

And, in case it's not obvious from my avatar, I think Empire of the Sun is one of the best titles of all time, even if the film didnt come up with it, it was the title of the novel. But still counts.

I could go all day on this topic. I actually think The Empire Strikes Back is a fantastic title, because it perfectly sums up the movie. Think about it...the empire...strikes back. I mean, boy, does it ever! Those pesky rebels blew up Palpatine's pride and joy. You think that gnarly old dark sider was gonna sit idly by after that?? No way man! The empire went and kicked some serious rebel butt on Hoth! Sent them liberal lefty rebels scattering to the four winds and then the hero of the rebellion gets his hand lopped off by his own dad! Man...what an *ss-whoopin...

Le Samourai. One instantly understands the character of Jef because of that title. It essentially created the Noble Hitman genre in Western movies. Equally effective is a title directly inspired by it: Ronin.

Hobo With a Shotgun - Perfectly communicates that it's a ridiculous actioner with its tongue in its cheek. And it makes me smile.
