Hulu Plus has been great for the Criterion Collection. They seem to have about 2/3 of the Criterions, so I've seen a load that way. It's a perfect way to see any that you might be on the fence about. So if you're hesitant to gamble $30-$40 each on a bunch of Criterions, just spend $8 for a month on Hulu Plus to access dozens of them.

That being said, Hulu Plus doesn't have much of anything else. I've barely found anything else interesting, and they haven't added much either since I've joined. I'll probably cancel my membership once I've seen the Criterions on my list.
+1. this is very interesting.

They also have titles that Criterion doesn't plan to release on DVD or Blu at all, so there's that.

HuluPlus is a great deal if you cut the cord from cable or satellite. Otherwise, yeah, there's not much point.

Hulu works best with Netflix or Amazon, but not both. For example Downton Abbey 2 is on Hulu but not Netflix. The Criterion collection is an odd fit with them and will take time to get used to for me.

i dropped my netflix to streaming only because i was using Amazon for the new releases.
you can never get new release discs from Netflix when they are NEW.
Amazon Prime i bought for the shipping discount, the streaming is actually a bonus for me.
i don't watch it enough to buy it JUST for that, since i still end up pay for individual titles ontop of what they stream free.

Honestly i hadn't visited Hulu's site in 8 months.
when there were broadcast shows worth watching i could use them to catch up.
but then the ones i was watching ended or they started cutting back to the last 3 or 5..i stopped visiting the site.

I agree about the Criterions on Hulu..
i'd say catch em while they are there, because we don't know how long they have got the contract to stream them.

Same here. The selections are still pretty sparse on Prime though. I was scrolling through the TV offerings on my Kindle, and I was jazzed that Foyle's War was there for free. My wife and I had rented the first 4 seasons on Netflix a few years back. To my dismay, I find THE FIRST 4 SEASONS are the ONLY ones available free on Prime! The rest are pay per view. Great wailing and gnashing of teeth ensued.
Cheers,

For those with Acorn TV (available on Roku and web)

James May 20th Century is available and I quite like it. It's more of a documentary than Top Gear so don't go in expecting them to make a laser out of a banana or anything.

They also rotate in shows that aren't on Netflix. They had Poirot first (by a slim margin) and the new Doc Martin. Netflix seems to be losing Doc Martin episodes rather than gaining them so people who fancy English programing but aren't wanting to go full on expat should look into them.
