Skyfall (no spoilers)

I shall not say much, as I believe that this has yet to be shown in the USA. Most professional critics in the UK gave very good reviews to Skyfall. Perhaps I was expecting too much as a result, because although I thought it was a big improvement on Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale was a more interesting and enjoyable film. However, Skyfall delivers what any Bond-watcher expects in terms of the usual ingredients. Also, if you like Bond, you need to see this before reading any review with a spoiler.

I had a similar reaction. Good, but not great. Better than Quantum of Solace, but it had the same problem in that there were too many elements that seemed to have been shoehorned into the script simply because it was a Bond movie. All the self-consciousness about the bond history was a bit much as well.

That said, the performances were excellent, there were some great set pieces, and the ending was inspired. It's just one of those cases the whole is less than the sum of its parts.
