I'm not sure that "rocked" is the best word one might choose to describe the world's most prominent champion of bubbles, champagne, polkas and elevator music.

Growing up in that era in a one tv household I pretty much had to watch it on Saturday nights or, at least, hear it in the background if I tried to do something else. Still have polka nightmares. Although I did have a crush on the youngest of "The Lovely Lennon Sisters" at the time and looked forward to seeing them. Oh, the shame! My salvation came when my parents bought me a small tv of my own and I could choose my own programming which meant out with Welk and in with Mission Impossible. :D
