What do you want on Blu-Ray!

Postby Steve T Power on 07 May 2009 06:05

Anyone remember the good 'ole days, when we had lists as long as our arms of titles we wanted to see on DVD?

They're back! What do you want to see on Blu-Ray?

I'll start off small:

- Gladiator
- Braveheart
- Collateral
- Legend

and of course:
LAWRENCE OF ARABIA
There's the way it ought to be, and there's the way it is.

The classic big pictures are ideally suited for BD, but will take time to arrive. I asked the VP of Sony Home Entertainment about LAWRENCE and he said "they are waiting for the right time." In other words, don't expect it any time soon.

Twin Peaks - The Complete Series. Please, please, please, please.

Also, the original three Indiana Jones films.

Lots and lots of Werner Herzog films (so far, I think we're limited to Rescue Dawn and Encounters at the End of the World)... Aguirre in particular would just be awesome in hi-def.

Clue - yes I know I may sound weird but to me it would be a good test of the format. No big explosions, no cg, no lightning fast action. Just a wonderful set, beautiful costumes and a great movie.

You mentioning Clue reminded me of another one... the original Sleuth! What a great film, but the DVD is currently out of print. A Blu-ray release would be awesome.

Still hoping for anything on regular DVD that's only available in fullscreen or non-animorphic. I figure at this point, the best chance to get these in animorphic is to wait for the Blu-Ray:

Raising Arizona
The Last Dragon
The Ref
Grosse Pointe Blank

Seven Samurai - because I want to see just how good this phenomenal movie can look.
Bridge on the River Kwai - 'nuff said
Warlock (1959) - It will probably never happen, but MAN I'd love to see it!
Open Range - Just a beautiful film to look at, and the story's damn good, too!
Jurassic Park - It's just a lot of fun, and it looks great.
The Shootist - A great movie that could look really good on blu.

That's just off the top of my head.

Jurassic Park would be really cool on blu-ray. I would definitely purchase that. I've been watching all the big movies of 2008 on blu-ray and can't believe the difference in quality. There were some really cool features on the valkyrie dvd, including this 40 minute documentary that was just as good as the movie itself. This is a video I found on youtube about working with Tom Cruise thats a clip from one of the special features. Its amazing how down to earth he seems for such a high profile actor.

I would LOVE to see the original "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3" on blu-ray. I have it on DVD and looked foward to seeing in on my nice new widescreen TV and was sadly dissappointed when I put it on and the movie was wrapped around a large black frame.inside the new TV screen. It was not anamorphic widescreen. For this reason I long for this to be released on blu-ray.
Also on my list are:
Cutthroat Island
Tombstone
The Posesidon Adventure

Where's

Jurassic Park (any of them)
Scrooged
1941
Indiana Jones (first three, especially 1 and 3)

There are a lot of big name movies that should be on blu ray. Why are the studios dragging their feet? It can't survive without the software. Especially Jurassic Park as it's DVD is fair at best compared to later releases.

I just caught some rumblings of Lawrence of Arabia on Blu-ray by June 2010, but we've all heard that before...

The wait continues.

It amazes me that a title that was teased before the format even launched (along with Finding Nemo) still hasn't materialized. When it does, it'd better be on par with the Blade Runner set.

Forget it Steve... it's Sony home video...
