I'm trying to figure that one out as well. I could kind of understand it if a person still had a large collection of VHS tapes and the Blu-ray was a recorder but otherwise....what? You want to do a side-by-side comparison of just how far we have come in 15 years?

It makes sense for a person with a lot of VHS tapes (VCR's don't exist) or someone who likes to tape often and can still find blank VHS. It's more practical than a DVD / VCR combo since it costs about the same and does all.

I however would have gone up the chain a bit and bought a wi-fi unit. Ethernet cables make baby jesus cry.

I still don't get why in this day and age blu ray and wifi are so far apart. It's a wifi world and the blu ray spec was built around connectivity. Cheap wireless cards retail for around 30-40 bucks and probably wholesale in mass quantities for pennies. It's just lazy for the manufacturers not to include it. Then there's Samsung, LG, and Panasonic which have the "ready" devices that require an extra dongle which usually runs 100 dollars give or take. For that money I'll just get a PS3 and be done with it. At least Sony players will accept and wifi dongle (or so I'm told by sony tech support).

In short I'd recomend the Sony bdp-s370 which is wifi ready and get a 25 dollar USB adapter from Staples.

We carry this one in our store and I just don't get the reasoning behind it. My thought was, as Harold mentioned, maybe it's to show then and now. But the VCR doesn't even record so....I just continue not to understand.

Trust me, there's a market. VCR's don't exist anymore and it's about the same price as the DVD combos. My dad has enough VHS tapes to use them as insulation for his house. When his VCR dies something like this will take it's place. Probably not long from now.

Yeah, you can patronize me all you want about buying this thing.. Yeah, it looks super cheesy but I have to tell you, the video looks freaking AMAZING! I popped in a videocassette I recorded off cable MANY years ago and I am in awe! This thing kicks major ass!

I can't wait for Amazon to stop screwing with my Blu-Ray order and for them to send them discs!
