The Eye (original) because I'm a sucker for "this is the scariest movie I've ever seen" customer reviews on amazon.

Should get my copy today along with the final season of Mission: Impossible. I'm willing to double dip on The Big Heat to get the rest of the first time noirs on DVD. Volume II is scheduled for early next year. Got to support these titles because I have major problems with Warner's Archive program.

I'm starting to hesitate on dvd titles over Blu-ray, even though I must be dreaming to think that deep catalogue titles like these will ever reach that format.

That is my basic feeling. We are what?...about 12 years into the DVD format and a lot of stuff is just now hitting DVD. If they are not going to offer it on Blu-ray upfront, which you would think after the restoration on the titles they have to be making hi-def transfers as well that they would be able to, then it is going to take quite some time for them to get around to it on the next gen format.

Volume II should be fantastic--City of Fear, In a Lonely Place and the Tourneur-directed Nightfall? Oui, monsieur!

I did preorder Star Trek and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (both single-disc editions) for $9.99 a pop at Wal-Mart.com -- that included free shipping. While I'm not a fan of Wal-Mart, these prices were too good to pass up IMO.

I will be getting it
but today I ordered Universal Cult Horror Collection from TCM Murders in the Zoo (1933) The Mad Doctor of Market Street (1942), The Strange Case of Dr. RX (1942), The Mad Ghoul (1943) House of Horrors (1946)
I couldn't find it elsewhere.

I agree about double dipping on Big Heat but it makes no sense for it to be included whatsoever. nor In a Lonely Place,...were they hard up for films?

Well, Columbia wasn't the biggest studio as far as film noir was concerned, so their vaults are not as plentiful with film noir as say RKO, Warner & Universal but still, yeah, the double dipping does not make a whole of sense outside of using the more "well known" title as a way to help sell the set. I'm thankful for Sony to finally start dipping into their vaults but I wish bit rates were better on the discs, and really 5 Against the House looks really bad with this odd blueish/greenish haze to the image and if they were going to double dip at least provide some new content on The Big Heat.

Do you have any reservations about buying those dvd titles? There are a number of standard dvd Criterions I want (e.g. The Friends of Eddie Coyle) but I'm thinking about the irresistible urge I will have to upgrade should a Blu-ray version come out...

That may be an issue at some point but since Criterion has gotten their blu-ray program going they have been pretty good about announcing both releases at the same time...so no I'm not really worried about a blu-ray of Human Condition or That Alexander Woman hitting the shelves and I think if they would have had the rights for a Blu-ray release of Z it would be out there already. As for the Godard's, they might be in line for a eventual hi-def upgrade but for as hot & cold I am towards Godard they would have to be really awesome for me to think about double dipping.

I'd like to take advantage of the sale, but for some reason Barnes and Noble's website only seems to have 1 or 2 of the Blu-ray titles discounted. I may just have to the store location nearest me (about 40 minutes away), because I'm definitely interested in picking up a few things.

I've spent the past hour reading Blu-ray reviews over at DVD Beaver and am thinking about going back for another bite of that 60% off apple. And maybe I should pick up a couple of blu-ray copies of The Third Man and put them in a closet for a couple of years.

Picked up the "Die Hard" blu-ray collection. It's one of Amazon's "todays deals" for only 37.99, and there are still a few left as of this writing.
Also got the "Up" blu-ray 4 disc there for 19.99. Got three copies. One for me, and two for gifts.
And "Watchmen Ultimate Cut" blu-ray at Amazon as well.

Although it doesn't state it on the Deep Discount site, I saw a flyer that was sent to people who ordered recently and the 40% is off the MSRP, not regular low price in bold red.
Most everything I checked out that I was interested in was actually a little lower than 40% already.
You may find some better deals elsewhere. Amazons prices were all lower than Deep Discounts.
I did just pre-order Farscape: The Complete Collection for $74.38 at Deep Discount. That's way lower than I saw anywhere else. Amazon's pre-order is 104.99.
So I'm not sure if Deep Discount made a mistake on that one, but if anyone was thinking of picking it up, go now.
You may be better off stocking up on some Criterions you've wanted with the Barnes and Noble 50% off sale.
I picked up the 2 disc Criterion version of "M" at the store the other day besides the two I just ordered online.

my copy of Universal Cult Horror Collection from TCM came today.
well actually it came from Movies Unlimited who are apparently doing fulfillment for TCM
i did see it listed on Movies Unlimited and no where else but TCM..but i kinda wrote it off
in the manner that you do when you see a Not yet released title available somewhere online
you figure they dont' want to turn anyone away and are taking pre-orders for it.
but Nope MU is doing the actually vending and shipping....i wish they had friggin just said so during checkout
i would have swapped over to MU and bought a couple of their DVR titles too.
just to make out better on the shipping.

silly buggers.

OK, recieved Wings Of Desire blu-ray but got an e-mail saying they cancelled The Third Man blu-ray. Bummer.
Went to the local B&N and they had one copy of the standard in stock so I picked that up. Really hoped to get the blu-ray before it sold out.

25% off B&N coupon that is. Not 24% although that would be eye catching like those 24 mph speed limit signs.

B&N sale again and picked up Last Year At Marienbad & The Last Metro on Criterion blu-ray and I too used a 20% off coupon.
Dark Knight...I can check and see if they have a Third Man blu-ray left if you want.
