learn something new everyday...
my cheapo Coby player died and i have to save up for another cheapo multiregion..
so right now all i have are my PCs and PowerDVD to watch dvds...
and today i thew in my shaun of the dead without remembering that it was Region 2...and lo and behold it played it.
I guess i am pretty dumb because it never occurred to me that it WOULD play other regions...and i never tried.
if the damn thing comes with a manual i have never seen it.
just figured i'd share in case anyone else never tried

Rule of thumb: DVD playing software/drives on almost all computers/laptops are region free. The region thing has more to do with encoding the discs for PAL and/or NTSC analog TV signal compatibility (which are meaningless on a computer monitor) than anything else besides the segmentation of rights for studios. I'm in the video duplication/production business and this is pretty known in the trade, but still surprises a heck of a lot of civilians when we tell them.
