I ordered Paris, Texas: Criterion, Lola Montès: Criterion & Big Trouble In Little China all on blu-ray and I pre-ordered 2012, Ponyo & Where The Wild Things Are, also all on blu. And I don't know what it says about me by I'm dying to get my hands on 2012 & Big Trouble first. Shit that goes boom!

Harold, have you picked up any of the Pixar Blu-rays yet? Monsters Inc. just floored me with it's detail. Just amazing.

Back on subject-I picked up The Three Stooges Collection Vol. 4. This may be as far as I'll go on this series. I'm not a Shemp hater but after a while Columbia started to remake earlier Stooges' shorts featuring Curly and finally ended up remaking Shemp shorts!

I'm looking forward to it. It was hard to track down a copy. My local comic shop stopped carrying anime, but I just discovered another place nearby that has quite a selection. I also picked up Spriggan, which may not be high art, but is a killer action flick.

Blu-ray fever....Best Buy has all the currently released 007 movies on sale for $12.99, so I picked up Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger and Thunderball. They also have Star Trek seasons one through three for $39.99, so seasons one & two are now mine. I'm really trying to decide how much of a completist I'm going to be with stuff on Blu-ray. Oh and my shipment from Asia.com arrived with the region all blu-ray of Johnnie To's latest movie, Vengeance.
Also for good measure I picked up the new Peter Gabriel CD, "Scratch My Back."

I just, I can't... i couldn't make it through the first song! I love Peter, have every album, every remaster including a few SVCD discs of his.. I saw him in concert during "The Growing Up" tour and got so emotional, I actually cried! I can't for the life of me get into this album. It's so freaking depressing.. I mean seriously, he destroyed one of my favorite Bowie songs.. WTF? It's just so freaking depressing! We need a new album of original work!

However, I love his work here, breaking from not only the usual conventions of popular music, but from his own stylistic tricks, stripping it down to the point where he has more or less totally reworked the songs from the ground up, making it pretty much an album of brand new music.

Plus, I love his take on "Heroes."

I agree with the other Ghostbuster...I think the album is pretty awesome. I love the arrangements and Gabriel is in very good voice.

Hardly any of you picked up Ponyo? Shame. Target had the BD combo pack for $24.99, but using a coupon and gift card brought it down to $7.28 out of pocket. Really not bad for a new DVD and a free Blu-ray.

I think your little girl will love Ponyo and Totoro, if she hasn't seen them yet. I don't think everything Miyazaki does turns to gold, but I loved Spirited Away, Ponyo and Howl's Moving Castle.

Girls, plural - i'm totally outnumbered

I'm sure they would both dig Totoro, and Ponyo looks like something they would dig as well. I'm not keeping it from em or anything

As for Myazaki's other works: I was with Spirited Away until the final act was in a desperate mad rush to collect all the pieces it had sailing through the air within that precious 2 hour runtime and I found Howl's to be significantly lacking in any sort of 'going's on' as it were. To each their own i guess. I don't slight any one else's appreciation for him, and as i said, i love me some Mononoke and Nausicca - and Laputa wasn't half bad either.

I still think that No one outside of anime circles would even know Myazaki's name if John Lasseter didn't have such a boner for him. There are other directors working in the same medium who are just as (if not more) deserving of the attention.
