indeed...no one ever walks you through the creation of a a superheroes 'stuff'
it also emphasizes how the bat suit gets constructed piece by piece without anyone one designer or manufacturer saying " hey..i made his whatchamacallit" and points out that he really his major rich.
it's not like he would wear the brittle mask and then work it in as a plot point.
it seems to brittle to wear, when a perfectly good balaclava will do the same job.
but it is not a stupid question, we are so conditioned to everything in a film having a reason for being there, that we have become hypersensitized to added texture. What point Taratino's Lippinzanner argument has being in Crimson Tide? it isn't part of the plot or subplot, but the conversation foreshadows the coming struggle between the characters and emphasizes the capt is a dick who can't admit it when he's wrong. it's just texture.
