(Some) Criterions for 2nd Half of 2010 (Leaked)

Postby J.M. Vargas » Wed May 05, 2010 2:14 pm

The usually-airtight release schedule for Criterions in the coming months has sprung multiple media leaks in the past few days. Coming in the 2nd half of 2010:

Aug. 10: a collection of Josef von Sternberg silents, including “The Last Command” and “Underworld” - no news yet if they're part of an Eclipse or regular (i.e. overpriced) Box Set.

Sept. 7: Nobuhiko Obayashi's “House” (1977) - DVD confirmed, Blu-ray TBA.

Coming soon to Blu-ray: Antichrist (Lars Von Trier, 2009); The Darjeeling Limited (Wes Anderson, 2007); The Seven Samurai (Akira Kurosawa, 1954); The Thin Red Line (Terrence Malick, 1998); Videodrome (David Cronenberg, 1982) and Charade (Stanley Donen, 1963). - Exact release dates TBA.

The Thin Red Line on blu-ray? From Criterion?

OMIGOD!

Please! Now! Good lord... must... regain... composure...

I think my face just melted a little...

(i wonder if it's the director's cut complete with 110 percent more Colin Farrell?! Oh the possibilities!)

Wait, did that say Seven Samurai?

Mine as well, maybe i can finally ditch The Truth About Charlie. Then again, i kinda like Tim Robbins' spot on portrayal of Walter Matthau... er i mean Mr. Bartholemew.

Might be alone on this, but the title I'm most excited about getting the Criterion treatment is Darjeeling Limited. Great movie, lousy DVD release.

And this makes me all the more convinced that Criterion is very close to releasing their first animated film, and it will be Fantastic Mr. Fox.
