How do you...

Any MacHeads out there? I've never in my life downloaded a movie before over the internet and have no clue on how do it... What do I need? Like, software wise? After I download the movie, t.v. show or whatever, how do I burn it to disc? Please don't suggest Roxio Titanium, I hate that bloody thing! Thanks
