The DVD Wish List - Still Waiting...

Postby OperaGal » Thu Nov 04, 2010 3:31 pm

Recently I've been putting together a list of Blu-rays that I want and then thought of some movies I've wanted for so long on DVD.

There are so many movies that were not released on DVD or ones that were released then disappeared or just released in Full-screen -ugh...
Here's my list of movies that need a proper release:

The Godless Girl ('29)
Seventh Heaven ('37)
Voice of the Turtle (aka One For the Book) ('47)
The Boy With Green Hair ('48)
The Secret Garden ('49)
John Loves Mary ('49)...only available on DVD-R
The Curse of the Black Widow ('77)
Annie ('82)...was released in Full-screen
The Pirate Movie ('82)
The Toy ('82)...was released in Full-screen
The Peanut Butter Solution ('85)
The Legend of Billie Jean ('85)
Bach and Broccoli aka 'Bach et bottine' ('86)
Made in Heaven ('87)
Mother Goose Rock 'N Rhyme ('90)

Oh how I hope that these will surface on DVD someday soon! Yes, I've a few bizarre requests in there but it's mostly for nostalgic value.

The Boy With Green Hair is available from Warner's Archive site. It's a burnt disc so it may not be what you're looking for but this seems to be the way studios are going to be releasing these films that they deem are not worth a full scale treatment.

Hmm, I recall seeing it DVD a few years back, but heard it wasn't a good print. Guess I really wouldn't mind the DVD-R copies, as long as it's a decent print with good sound.
Also would hope it'd work in the Blu-ray player...But wow, Warner sells them for $19.95 and Amazon for $26.99 - ouch!!

Oh, and another movie I'd love to have on DVD is The Merry Widow ('34)...saw it on TCM a while ago, very good!

I have an early issue of Annie on DVD that's in widescreen. Just to help ya out.

Now:

Where's my widescreen (non-german import) version of Split Second

And how about High Road to China? That'd be swell.

Still no R1 of 1492: Conquest of Paradise either. Don't know what's going on there... the Aussie release I have actually has pretty decent picture/audio.
As the ancient Tibetan philosophy states:"Don't start none... won't be none...".

I'm still just waiting for anamorphic or at least plain WIDESCREEN releases of some movies that are already out on DVD. At this point, I'll be happy with a cheap Blu-Ray:

The Last Dragon
Grosse Pointe Blank
Raising Arizona
The Abyss
+1. this is very interesting.
