Army of Shadows in Canada

Postby Andrew Forbes » Tue Jan 11, 2011 9:25 am

My most anticipated Criterion blu-ray since adopting the format appears unavailable in Canadian stores, from what I can tell. I've been able to order it off Amazon.ca, but I wonder why it's not in brick&mortars. I can't recall another Criterion title in either format that has been unavailable, and the other forthcoming Criterion titles are up for pre-order at HMV, Future Shop, Best Buy, etc. Is there a licensing issue that anyone is aware of?

I noticed something similar with the blu-ray release of Che. The Canadian non-Criterion version (Mongrel media maybe? Or Alliance?) was all that could be got.

Lately i've been seeing it more frequently as well (Canada still hasn't gotten a version of The Human Centipede... not that I want it, but i've had customers lookin'.)
As the ancient Tibetan philosophy states:"Don't start none... won't be none...".

It's the dipshit distributor. I believe it's E1 who has the rights in Canada and they're terrible. Mind you, some of the US stores ain't any raving hell either. I'd probably stick with amazon either ca or com.

Yeah, it was cheaper anyway. Probably would have been in the mid-$30s t0 mid-$40s in store but it was $27.78 online.

Weird thought that just jumped in my head - For everyone out there that can't get films in their area and for those of us who can, why dont we start something where we can get those films for that person and just ship it out to them?
It's not as though I really need you, if you were here I'd only bleed you..

And now Shock Corridor and The Naked Kiss have suddenly been pushed back to Feb. 1 at Canadian retailers, apparently. F this noise.
