Explain your signatures!

Postby TemporalWisdom » Sun Nov 04, 2007 7:58 pm

It occurred to me that something was left out of the old thread. So explain what your line is and why you chose it. I realize some of them are self-explanatory, but others are pretty obscure. Oh, and if anybody didn't talk about themselves or their avatars before the pissing contests started, here's the place. Only don't talk about your political leanings, now. Fraught with too much danger, I fear.

Mine's from Animaniacs, Episode 2.9, Clown and Out. A clown is hired for Wakko's birthday, only it turns out he's afraid of clowns, and some horrible and very funny things happen to this clown. At the end, Dr. Scratchensniff has Wakko and Mr. Plotz lying on his couch repeating after him: "A clown is my friend. A clown will not bite me and throw me in the basement." I just loved this, and it seemed perfectly absurd. My old signature was starting to get old, so it was good timing.

Mine's from That 70's show season 2 Cat Fight Club episode. Hyde treaches Jackie to be zen so she can fend off Laurie's insults. But then Laurie goes too far and Jackie kicks her ass - hence this remark made by Hyde.

I was just trying to find a cool Hyde quote to go with my avatar and this one also goes with my personality. I'm generally a cool guy, but if you push me too far - watch out!

"When I was a boy there was no such word as fail, but now I am a man"

I found this in one of those collections of things that are unintentionally funny (or in this case, true) that used to be published pretty regularly. i use it because it's similar to the kinds of things my screen name's namesake might have said if I'm All Right Jack had been a longer movie, and focused more on Fred Kite than it did on Stanley Windrush and some of the other characters. And been about philosophy instead of the British labor situation in the 50's. Or something.

I've been looking for a usable photo of Fred Kite for a while...if I ever find one, maybe I'll start using it. If not, then no avatar for me, thanks.

Don't recall what movie was under discussion, but I do remember that Steve did, in fact, hate it.

Mine is a quote from Springsteen's Living In The Future from his new record, where he points out how bad things have gotten in terms of American freedoms being trashed.* I used to use my favorite line from The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, Ranger Brad's brilliant "We take our horrible mutilations around here seriously".**

*This is merely an explanation of the lyric used, it is not a request for a political discussion, a political rant, or debate. It is not intended to be any attack, dispute or insult to anyone's political beliefs, it is merely the wording given by Bruce himself when he appeared on The Today Show. If you wish to dispute those words, please take them up with Bruce, he and the E-Street Band are currently touring all over the country. ***
**This movie is effin' brilliant and if you haven't seen it, do so immediately. If you have seen it and didn't like it, you obviously suck and have no taste whatsoever for parody.
*** Be forewarned however that if you get all mouthy with Bruce, Clarence Clemons, the Big Man, will most likely whomp all over your head. There's also no telling what Little Stevie will do after appearing on the Sopranos for all those years.

Mine's from an old SNL sketch parodying The McLaughlin Group (a talking-heads-type show for those who don't know) from the early '90s. John Goodman, who was hosting, played one of the panelists.

I couldn't find a YouTube clip of it.....

I change mine fairly regularly. But since a signature (among other things) supposedly says something about who you are and what you think is important, I try to always make it something informative or entertaining, such as an opinion piece or a nice youtube clip.

Whoops, I changed mine. This is only my third signature in the whole time I'm been a Juror. I actually thought of this a couple weeks ago, and then forgot just what the hell I'd intended to change it to.

It's from the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. I loved it as a kid, but now I'm pretty sure it's stone-dumb. The character of Casey Jones, though, is still the best part.

This is such a great thread. Loved the Harry Chapin one, and the John Goodman Saturday Night Live.

Mine is an old Far Side comic, it's the image of the string beans that cracks me up every time.
... later that evening, and with the window shades drawn, Mary had a baked potato, two helpings of string beans, and a little lamb.
