What is Cloverfield? Good question.

At this point, nobody knows, but it's the code name for a J.J. Abrams (Lost, etc) produced film that had an enigmatic trailer attached to the front of Transformers. No movie title, no narrator, no nothing. Very mysterious. Another working title for the film rumored is "The Parasite".

The "official" website (1-18-08.com) has a screenshot, but nothing else. From what people have been able to tell, the movie centers around a monster attack in NYC, assembled through amateur video/cellphone cameras/etc from the eyewitnesses at ground level.

If you scour YouTube you can catch a trailer for it (bootleg of course) that shows the Statue of Liberty getting the hell blown out of it.

Thoughts? Theories? Ideas? Rumors are abound, even going so far as to put J.J. in negotiation with Toho... and you know what that means, people.

You gotta give it to J.J.--the dude knows how to create viral hype and buzz.

I think i might have found something out about the movie details and what it has to do with the "prophecies" of Ethan Haas. To anyone who has gotten past the fourth test on ethanhaaswasright.com, there was a picture that somebody cropped and showed 2 faces on 1-18-08.com that look almost exactly alike when placed together side by side. In the video right after the fourth test, the leader of what i think is some sort of rebellion says this "the more that we are in the same place at the same time, we will all see we must organize....". The picture that has been spread around the internet and this quote makes me think this isn't simply a "big monster movie" but something more... We will all see August 1st...

Yeah, I caught the Japan reference, too, but that just seems a little too obvious, I think... I'm really hoping this is something totally original that we have NOT seen before... I'm not sure that we really need another American take on Godzilla....

Have you seen the 1-18-08.com site? I'm not sure why I am feeling so creeped out by just a couple of movable snapshots...
