Need Help Buying a Bed

Postby stypee » Sun Mar 09, 2008 12:16 pm

So my bed has decided to go south and now I'm sleeping on what feels like a drift. It's not a very comfortable experience. I've been pricing beds and cannot believe the ridiculous amounts of money they are asking for them (they aren't really "asking" they are "telling" me that I have to pay these ridiculous prices), I live on the East Coast (New York City to be exact) and was wondering if anyone might know a place where I can find a decent memory foam mattress set. I'm looking at sizes between TWIN and TWIN XL since that's about all the room I have in my bedroom. I've been checking out this place http://www.mybobs.com and looking at the "bob-o-pedic lite", I can't tell you guys how many times I've gone to this website and ALMOST made the purchase..

If anyone has had any experience with Bob's can you tell me what it was like? Nobody I know has ever shopped at the place. Also any tips on other places I can search? I've looked everywhere, including 1-800-Mattress, Sleepys, Macys and probably a few others. I'm looking to spend no more than 500 bucks.

Thanks guys!!!

The "Both Mattresses Are 8 Inches Thick" blurb on the splash ad makes me nervous because it tells me exactly nothing. And? How else do they compare?

I don't know, man. Beds are like shoes: you get what you pay for. They ain't cheap, but when you consider that a good one will last you a decade, the cost/year isn't that bad.

unless you NEED an XL or a King bed, i would avoid them
buying bed linens will be painful.

i wouldn't even buy a twin if i could get away with a full.
but then buying linens for a twin will be easier.
but what do i know? I'm sleeping the remnants of a foldout that was made when Ike was in office.

Last time I went mattress shopping, I started off at Sleepy's, which I'll never do again. They wanted something like ten grand for a king size mattress, justifying the cost by saying it would last me 20 years. Well, no offense, but anybody who sleeps on the same mattress for 20 years oughta have their head examined, or at least their skin.
... later that evening, and with the window shades drawn, Mary had a baked potato, two helpings of string beans, and a little lamb.

I've bought my two beds from a firm called "The Original Mattress Factory." Don't know if they are in NY, but they are reasonably priced and good quality. I have my twin mattress from 1992 and it's still in fantastic condition.
Avatars are cool.

oh yeah ...those memory foam mattresses?
what they forgot to tell you is that they weigh a bloody ton.
I helped some friends move one from one house to anyother
it took 6 people.

I'm feeling a little strange right now. My father and I went online last night and my dad was really nice enough to buy me a new bed. I went with the BOB-O-PEDIC LITE. I got really confused trying to figure out all the different sites and what the deal was on beds. I pretty much had my heart set on a memory foam mattress since I've got a bad back.

I got the call from them today and the bed will arrive here on Friday. But what has me a bit worried are the customer reviews I've been reading on this thing. I haven't really seen anything all that positive and it's really worrying me. One person called it "like sleeping on a brick" (thankfully this was a different model) and I have trouble fathoming exactly how one could call a memory foam mattress a "brick". I'm not that naive, I don't buy into advertising but I really need a good bed. I sometimes think the internet is more dangerous than it should be, having all my worries in such a knot! I even went over to Amazon and spent a fortune on new bedding and an extra memory foam pillow (which is da' bomb) but I can't help but worry about all this negativity revolving around poor old BOB'S. It's amazing how crazy the net can make you, the research is a good thing but the worries I can live without!

Hi Stypee,
I sleept on a Bob O' Pedic and it was wonderful. I was over my brothers house and we were snowed in.
Now I am thinking of purchasing one.
Best night sleep I have ever had!!!!!!!! Woke up a few times to (pee) but fell right back to sleep. WOW For me! Also they had a topper on theirs. Not one of Bob Toppers.
My brothers wife said that is was a Bob O' Pedic LITE but I think it was a Bob O' Pedic (Regular) because I went to the store and tryed them out.
She is eventually going to get the receipt from the store and show me. (There is a cover on the bed and I did not want to fool around with that).
I will tell you what happends but I am in no rush to buy as I have to save up some money.
Any questions please ask.

Stypee,
My 2nd message to you:
Please do not EVER buy a matteress without trying it out at the store. (((Even better if you try it out at someones home and sleep overnight on it!!!)
Sincerely,
Anthony

A Key when trying out a MATTERESS

Postby Anth44 » Fri Dec 25, 2009 6:38 pm

Everyone (A Key) ::
When you try a matteress at the store or at a home. ALWAYS roll to the other side of the bed. Sometimes you will find one side much softer than the other because of the ware and tear (USAGE).
That tells you 2 things.
1) When you get the bed it will probably be more like the stronger side.
2) Eventually your bed will sage like theres. So be prepared.
I found that this happend with the Celestrial (Bob O Pedic Celestrial) from Bobs Furniture store. www.MyBobs.com
I would buy the regular Bob O Pedic myself.
