Early Specs For Zodiac: Directors Cut

We all know the version of Zodiac due out a week from Tuesday is Fincher's theatrical cut and will be a bare bones affair. We all also know it follows a pattern lately of Fincher DVD releases where an expanded edition comes afterwards. Few directors understand DVD like David Fincher and these special editions of his films really as just that, special. Davis DVD brings us a first peek at the early specs for Zodiac.

Audio Commentary by David Fincher, actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey, Jr., screenwriter James Vanderbilt, producer Brad Fischer and crime novelist James Ellroy
* Extensive behind-the-scenes featurettes detailing the production from start to finish
* In-depth looks at the actual Zodiac crimes, including all-new interviews with the original investigators and survivors

We don't have any other details as of yet, but you can bet this is going to be one hell of a package. Stay tuned for more information on this release in the coming months.

It looks like we will see this sometime this January. I'm assuming that it won't be one big commentary but will instead follow Ficher's pattern of breaking up the related groups into different commentaries focusing on the specific areas of interest. I'm also hearing the directors cut will be 3 to 3 1/2 hours. It is worth noting, again through reading on several sites, that the bare bones edition will be the only one with the movie's theatrical cut. I know several people who have Zodiac in the best-of list of movies released this year. I'm looking forward to it.

Awesome.

That is all.
Our next film will be for the kiddies. And we'll demonstrate a new, poison gas.

I'm glad that I can justify getting the bare-bones disc.

That SE should be fantastic, though.

I saw it on opening day and thought it was great.
The running time was two hours, forty minutes, and I'm not sure it needs to be any longer; but I admit I'm interested in seeing the director's cut.
However, that's what I said about APOCALYPSE NOW REDUX, and I think the theatrical cut was better.
Sometimes the "directors vision" is a bit self indulgent and sometimes they forget what we talked about in an old thread, which is that "the purpose of editing is to edit"

Cool. Having an interest in this case long before the movie was made, it was a definite must see for me. The theatrical cut seemed to be perfect, not rushed and not so long as to bore anyone who knew nothing of the case. I do think it is one of the best movies of the year to date and will probably own the bare bones and the DC, depending on what kind of extras about the case are provided.
So, it wasn't so much an eskimo roll. It was more a case of rolling right INUIT!

Ditto. I wanted to see this in the theater but missed out. Thank god there's a commentary track.
