Variety reports that Marc Forster (Finding Neverland, Stranger Than Fiction) will helm the 22nd film in the Bond franchise, and the second with Daniel Craig as 007.

Interesting choice. Stranger Than Fiction was one of the best movies from last year. Seems they are following the same path they took with Pierce Brosnan. Open up with Martin Campbell and then move on to an eclectic list of directors not really known for action movies.

Why duck for cover? Pretty much every Bond movie since Goldfinger could stand to lose 20 to 30 minutes. Personally, I found it less noticeable in Casino Royale than I have in any 007 movie in the past 20 years. At least they were taking the time on backstory & character development.

I'm thinking they will go with the RISIKO title.
The concept is they will continue Bond's evolution.

Not my first choice (Alex Proyas was), but certainly an interesting choice with a lot of potential.

Hopefully he unerstands the need for pacing and gets the action sequences done right. We'll see.

I get that near the end we were supposed to feel him revert to a weaker more emotional self, but did they have to spend 20 minutes watching him ride around in a boat with the girl. Couldn't they have let the adventure they had been through be enough to set the idea. I skip that part when I watch the dvd.

That's where On Her Majesty's Secret Service did it better. The split the "romance" up and gave it less screen time even combined that CR did but the impact was still the same.

I just finished watching Casino Royal for the first time ... seriously ... it couldn't be more then 20 minutes since the movie ended ... in all honesty I thought it may have been the best Bond ever. The action was great ... I mean really great ... the girls were sexy ... and Vesper was able to match Bond wit for wit ... that was cool ... The poker scenes kicked ass ... and there were a couple cool twists in it. Daniel Craig is an amazing choice for Bond ... his first outing was way better the any of Bronson's movies (although I still think that was more to the fact that those movies were poorly written/directed as opposed to acted.) The whole reboot idea worked enormously, I can't remember the last time I was this pleased with a new Bond film ... I don't think I ever have been. Whatever they are doing ... keep it up ... Bond has never been better. (And I'm a Bond fan from way back ... previous to this (and I may still change my mind on Casino Royal ... it is only the first time I've seen it after all) my favorite was Goldfinger, acted by my favorite Bond, Connery.)

The last 20 minutes of Casino Royale struck me as odd, because it was 20 minutes more than the rest of the Bond movies as far as the story goes. I mean, all the rest end with Bond in bed with the girl (aside from OHMSS of course) and having beaten the bad guys. This one doesn't stop there, kills the girl off and has another battle. It almost explained why that girl never makes it to the next movie!

There's a simple explanation for the pacing and final act of Casino Royale. The book is about 1/4" thick and well worth a read. If you haven't read it, do so and revel in how masterful an adaptation they created.

I wish they had kept Martin Campbell, but I'm willing to give Marc Forster the benefit of the doubt. I'm just enormously relieved they didn't pick Tony Scott.

Casino Royale had a long running time, but I enjoyed and savored every minute of it. And this is coming from someone who has hated 95% of the Bond films since Octopussy. I have no problem with length as long as there is content, and CS had it in spades.
