I have a PS3!!!!!!!!

I have a PS3!!!!!!!!

Postby TemporalWisdom » Sun Jan 04, 2009 5:03 pm

Or I will, tomorrow. I counted my Christmas money and found I had $365. I really wanted the 80 GB Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle, but it was too late -- out of stock. That left me with the plain old 80 GB package for the same price, $399.99, but instead I got the 160 GB Uncharted: Drake's Fortune bundle for a hundred more, $499.99. I think I do appreciate the extra hard drive space, but I don't know if I want to keep the game. It's worth sixty bucks, and I might be able to get that if I sell it new.

I did pick up MGS4 used! This is going to be sweet!

I assume you have an HDTV to go along with the PS3. Got an HDMI cable to hook the PS3 to the HDTV? If not get one online for no more than $10 tops. Component is the mimimum you should connect to the PS3, because anything on that machine seen in composite or S-Video is a crime. Got a Netflix account? For an extra buck or two you can switch your DVD queue to Blu-ray. With 160GB of space you can download a ton of stuff and keep it. Welcome to the next level. 8)

P.S.: you'll be lucky to get $35-40 for "Uncharted" because (a) it's been out for almost a year and (b) there's plenty of copies around. Good luck unloading it.

Uncharted is the best game available for the system. Seriously.

Hold onto that sucker. When MGS 4 is done and over, you'll still be pulling Uncharted off of the shelf. It's like the video game equivalent of that GREAT movie you pull of the shelf repeatedly on a slow Sunday afternoon.

I wish I had a PS3 instead of the glorious XBox 360.

Had it for 31 days, power supply dies; takes over three weeks to get a new one; plug that one in and get the RROD (already checked the power supply with a friend's console and it works fine). F---ing Microsoft junk.

I have: none of those things. A plain old 20 inch Orion that I was given as a gift when my 20 inch Zenith died (my poor Zenith! I saved my allowance for a year to buy her! ) in 2001. My mom has an HDTV downstairs, but aside from the fact that she watches stuff most of the day, she's paranoid about the possibility of images being burned into the screen.

At least I can move the PS3 downstairs to watch Blu-Ray movies, as long as I still live here. It's going to be a few years before my own set catches up to my PS3 and Xbox 360, though.

Seconded on all the Uncharted love.

Also, if you like gorgeous-but-short action hack and slash, Heavenly Sword would make a nice weekend rental.

Bad news...I missed it. Amazon requested a signature, unsurprisingly. UPS came, I was asleep, and no one else was home. They're going to try again tomorrow.

Congrats and welcome to the club!

Yes, keep Uncharted. I've gone through it twice and loved it.

Resistance: Fall of Man - Got this for $25 used at blockbuster last week, awesome.

Dead Space - Working on this one now. Movies don't scare me like this game does.
+1. this is very interesting.

If you're at all a fan of driving games or alcohol fueled carnage, I'd recommend picking up Burnout: Paradise. Pretty much the game that keeps on giving with all the free download-able content EA has been releasing over the past year.

It's here....It's beautiful....It's perfect. It's the most wonderful machine in the world.

I'm going to savor this. After I play MGS4, I think I'm going to give Uncharted a try.

Yeah, for all the lumps they've been taking in the last two years in the media - sony has put together one awesome machine.

Make sure you roast a weiner or two on top of that thing while you're at it. Gets pretty hawt for a videogame console (except the sales). 8)

I'm sure The Cell inside the PS3 is powerful-enough to emulate HD-DVD if Sony wanted it to. :|

Sure they could, if they wanted their intentions to be misinterpreted by the legions of slags grabbing every little bit of news and spinning it into "SONY IS TEH DOOMED!" Can you imagine the snarky, condescending comments that would be flying in their direction then?

Would the laser be able to read hd? I know it's supposedly based off the same or similar specs of DVD, but is it the same?

Not that it matters anyway, as Sony has no motivation to do it. It's a format they fought that competed with a format they desperately need to take off. If there were more HD desertees then they could do it to capture that market, but are there enough that would buy a ps3 anyway, and that don't already have an HD player that they use. If you have HD movies at this point or are going to get what's left then you have an HD player.
