1080p upconvert of SDVD

Postby Neal Masri » Tue Jan 13, 2009 6:10 am

OK, I am about 2 years behind the early adopters on this board. I just got a 42 inch plasma HDTV (1080p) as a Christmas present to myself.

I am not yet getting on board with Blu Ray (my tipping point is $14.99 new release prices). However, I have invested a boatload of $ into SDVD. There are some very affordable SDVD 1080p upconversion players out there that would tide me over for a year or two. Any experiences with these you could share? How do they look?

EDIT: I am aware that Blu Ray players do upconvert SDVD. However, I'm likely not going to buy one until I start buying Blu Ray discs.

From everything I have read and from speaking to people online Oppo makes the best up-converting DVD players out there. Good luck with your hunt and let us know what you end up purchasing.

The results are OK. Not sure exactly what I was expecting. I am, however, disappointed enough with the image quality to move up my purchase of a Blu Ray machine. I just can't stand having that unused 1080p capacity and not putting it to use....
