Hastings' has a deal where you can buy one of their previously viewed DVDs and get a second for a buck, so we took advantage this weekend and bought:

Babel
Syriana
Hotel Rwanda

And, for a little pick-me-up after watching those, we got what has to be the gosh-darn happiest movie in the history of the world... Mama Mia!

All of these for about $12 total. Not bad.

Blu-rays:
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (triple dip: DVD...to 20th Anniv DVD...to BR)
Black Hawk Down (triple dip: DVD...to 3-disc deluxe ed DVD...to BR)
Eragon (double dip: 2-disc special ed DVD...to BR)
Gattaca (double dip: DVD...to BR)
The Patriot
Underworld (double dip: 2-disc unrated extended cut DVD...to BR)

All for $11.99-$13.99 at Fry's!

Regarding the double-dipping, I keep the DVD versions around if they include extras not in the Blu-rays: Black Hawk Down 3-disc DVD had disc of TV documentaries etc apparently not on the BR , the Eragon 2-disc DVD included a fold out map exclusive to Borders Bookstore, and the Underworld 2-disc DVD included a comic book and sketch book.

Alfred Hitchcock Premiere Collection ($42 on amazon.com). And for five bucks each (all HD-DVD): Cat People ('82), Dazed & Confused, Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Things We Lost in the Fire. Best $62 I've spent in a while because, since it's all from the amazon link in DVDVERDICT's front page, the website gets some scratch. 8)

Amazon.uk order:
Doctor Who - The Visitation....Peter Davison era Doctor Who story
Whitechapel....recent BBC series about a series of Jack the Ripper copycat killings in modern day London.
The Long Firm....gangster series from the BBC featuring Mark Strong
Moonstone...BBC adaptation of what is considered to be the first mystery novel.
No Heroics....ITV series about the bar room where superheroes hang out. Soon to be recieving an US adaptation.
The Rescue & The Romans...a pair of William Hartnell/Doctor Who stories....it amazes me how many adventures exist featuring the 1st Doctor while so few exist from the Troughton era. Sad.
Unforgiven...recent ITV drama about a woman recently released from prison as she tries to make a new life for herself.

Just one this week. Clerks 2, Electric Boogaloo on Blu-Ray. And yes, the first thing I did was fast-forward to watch Rosario Dawson dancing in the tight tank top in hi-def.

Nice to see that all the of special features on boths discs are 1080p.

Milos Forman night on Blu-ray:

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (triple-dip).
Amadeus (double-dip). It's inexcusable that this is only the Director's Cut and doesn't include the original Theatrical version. They had enough room, because they saw fit to include an extra disc of Mozart music on a CD. HELLO, if I want a CD I'll buy a CD of an orchestra of MY choosing. Give me the freakin' Theatrical cut of the MOVIE! Oh, and you get a digital copy of the movie but it's attached in a separate cardboard sleeve on the back of the package, not on a plate inside! Say what?
Both of these had weird packaging that gave the look and feel of a hardcover book, with attached promotional pages inside containing bios, etc, but no content info about the disc itself except for a flimsily attached page on the back of the hardcover that I have to remove and reattach inside the hardcover. Not well thought out. Both on sale half price at Best Buy, though.

Weird about Amadeus not having both versions. I just got Jackson's King Kong on Blu-ray and they put both 3+ hour versions on that release. This might be my new reference disc to demo Blu-ray's audio advantage. So much subtle stuff going on in the background when they're on the Island with the expected bass when Kong's on a rampage and the final sequence with the biplanes taking him out is just terrific. Now, if I could only say the same about Jack Black's Carl Denham......oh well, can't have everything.

picked up Season 8 of Seinfeld for a little under 20 bucks at Wal-Mart (oh the shame!) the other night. This completes my Seinfeld collection. One of my priorities this year is to finish up partial collections in my library - so 'allo 'allo, Spooks, Sandbaggers, Futurama, Office, Earl, et al - you're all on the list!

On a store credit from DVD Planet, I nabbed Friday the 13th (BD) for myself, and Madagascar 2 (BD) and It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown for the kiddos.

Assault on Precinct 13 is on my radar. Man, I love that flick.
