pods worth hearing

If you feel the need to talk about things other than entertainment, just keep it clean

pods worth hearing

aside from the Verdict podcast

can folks share any podcasts that are worth hearing?
i used to subscribe to a few but i found that endless hours of rambling snarkyness was making me cranky.

i recently found that the guys who created Evernote started a podcast and it was actually quite clever
to TALK about the application and it's abilities. well..i thought it was clever.

I am such a podcast junkie! Here are some of my faves :

ANSWER BITCH - from E! Online comes the world's snarkiest entertainment reporter. Not really, but she does breakdown how Hollywood works.

ANSWER ME THIS - a trio of British 20somethings answer random questions thrown at them from listeners. It's funny what they come up with.

DRUNKEN ZOMBIE - all about horror movies... past, present, and future. The hosts also get drunk as they go, so discussions really take off in some crazy directions.

GEEK STUFF - a discussion of comics, movies, DVDs, and video games. Plus they talk about collectibles and comic cons. Even though I am only in to 1/2 this stuff I love the conversations.

I LOVE MOVIES - comedian Doug Benson hosts D-list celeb panel discussions of current releases, and they play the "LEONARD MALTIN" game at the end where they try to guess a film based on going backwards on the cast list.

IGN DVD DIGIGODS - DVD reviews with no depth, but two fun hosts.

LOST PODCASTING NETWORK - um... podcasts about LOST.

MARK KERMODE AND SIMON MAYO'S FILM REVIEWS - a look at films from the BBC perspective.

REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER - screw paying for HBO, this show is best heard on your car radio or while you are at the gym. They put the entire episode on the Web plus bonus material like jokes that never made it on the air.

SAVAGE LOVE PODCAST - sex advice from the never inhibited Dan Savage

SKEPTOID - skeptical looks at the world.

SLATE MAGAZINE - just a good catch-all of news, politics, money, and pop culture.

STORIES AND RANTS BY PAUL COOLEY - a horror writer from Houston sharing his life and an ambitious project - writing a novel while being on line to talk about how frustrating it all is.

The Sound of Young America — interesting interviews with cool comedians, actors, musicians, directors, authors, etc. etc.

and, related:

Jordan, Jesse, Go! — the host of TSOYA, Jesse Thorn, and his buddy Jordan Morris talking about anything and everything, with occasional cool guest co-hosts; awfully funny stuff

Both of those can be found at www.maximumfun.org

In a similar cool comedy vein, check out You Look Nice Today (at youlooknicetoday.com) and the very occasional Kasper Hauser sketch comedy troupe podcast (at www.kasperhauser.com)
Candy Bar Drive Thru
Short and Sweet. Sketch Comedy Podcast.

SModcast- Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier basically recording a BS session. When Walt Flanagan or Bryan Johnson fills in for Mosier, the stories are always gold.
Adam Carolla Podcast- Carolla was laid off from his radio job and now does 60 min, free, uncut podcasts with celebrity friends. They're 100x more funny than his radio show and the #1 podcast on iTunes.
I Love Movies- I really wish these were weekly and twice as long.

I also have to highly recommend the old 'Ricky Gervais Show' they are about $6 for a season (6-12, 30 min episodes) but every minute is sheer genius. The trio tend to release specials as $2 audiobooks every few months, but I really think Karl Pilkington (the round headed, shaved monkey who is the real star of the show) is tired of doing them.

I love SMODCAST. It's a great show, but I do find I don't like it as much when they get too stoned.

Adam Carolla - I just started downloading this. I am amazed Adam was laid off! That's insane. He's radio royalty! I hope he parlays this in to something bigger and better. In the meantime we get the benefits of no censors or producers. Whoo hoo!

I LOVE MOVIES - is really very good. But you are right... it needs to be more frequent. I feel like that's the key to podcasting success - coming out on a predictable frequent schedule!
