Until we get a pixel verdict forum I think game stuff has to go here, right?

Has anyone here tried something like this thing "Retro Duo" It's a good idea. I wonder if they make them for other systems.

I've heard mixed things about them, but it's definitely a cool idea.

I read that there's an Atari out there that has the 2600 works minus the cart. Of course there is a supposedly easy mod to add cartridge input. The Atari Flashback 2 goes for sometimes 10 bucks on Ebay so it's worth looking into.

I found my NES minus the cables (power AND video) so I'm debating on that retro duo, or possibly it and getting the cables. Mine is the second gen NES which supposedly fixed the bugs of the first one where you had to blow on the cartridge.

What did blowing on it do anyway? Some say it removed dust. I wonder if the moisture in your breath helped the contact points though. We need to run an experiment.

I got my NES working. Does anyone have suggestions of what games to hunt down? I recall Super Mario 3 being nice. Super Sprint looks fun also.

The best way to overcome the old hardware problems might just be to get a Wii. Most of the good games are available for download there (aside from the ones with licensing issues).

I think that was a problem with all NES,' the contact points eventually all get eroded just because of the way the hardware works. A friend of mine has an NES, but starting it up involves repeately blowing into the cartridge, loading & unloading the cartridge into the system, and fidgeting with the thing until it finally works.
+1. this is very interesting.

I can weigh in on the Atari Flashbacks. They are not all that great unless you love the games on them. I went ahead and eBayed a working system so that I could use all the carts. You get to play more games that way, and you can enjoy the NEW homebrews that people are STILL cranking out. The Atari Flashbacks were ports of the games too, and sometimes missing variations, features, and Easter eggs you could find in the originals. For some reason Ataris are built to last! No issues like what you have to do with the vintage NES systems, although I have had carts go bad. Paddles seem to also!
