I tried multiplayer co-op on the DS a few times. Sometimes you get someone who really helps, other times you have to babysit them. It's cool either way though but it can be difficult until you know who you are with. Of course the games I played were simpler than the PSN games. I'm told the old Wolfenstein game can be a monster online for example and my nephew can live in the Call of Duty games online.
