The flick is slightly diminished by its Phil Collins-iness, but otherwise, yes, it's boss...and would look great on Blu. Double word-up on the Pixar stuff (especially The Incredibles).
In terms of the classics, Peter Pan would be cool, as would 101 Dalmatians. Also, The Shaggy D.A. (just kidding).

Well, yeah, but that's like choosing between being stung by a scorpion or bitten by a rattle snake. One or the other might be preferable, but they both still hurt like a bitch.Steve T Power wrote:Also Tarzan gets the vote for "darkest villain death" in an Disney flick
Word. The Lion King is a close second with the whole savaged-by-hyenas thing.
No lie. I just watched the whole thing for the first time last week, with my mom. I really think it goes right over the kids' heads. I just didn't get it when I was 14 (when it came out). The final nail in the coffin for kid-friendliness is that the songs aren't too compelling in and of themselves -- I appreciate them mainly for the character development. How about the glowing-eyed gargoyle casting Frollo into what looks very much like a lake of fire?Jon Mercer wrote:Dan Mancini wrote:Steve T Power wrote:Also Tarzan gets the vote for "darkest villain death" in an Disney flick

I will see your Ripped apart by Hyenas and Raise you a having flesh and bone peeled away by the sinister power of the Black Cauldron.

Thank you for your well thought out response. Have you seen this movie? They clearly put much less work into it than into, say, Alice in Wonderland. The backgrounds are similar to those in Oliver & Company, so static and indistinct that it looks like the characters are acting in front of stage props. The character animation's pretty good, but nothing to write home about. You're hopelessly without a sense humor. Um, no, I've never actually seen the movie; I just threw it out there as an "I wish it were on Blu-ray" title out of desperate ignorance. And yes, much like the cartooning of Al Hirschfeld, those backgrounds in 101 Dalmatians suck ass (because they didn't put any work into them).
The movie's stylized look and the energy of its animation is exactly why I'd dig seeing it in high def. Plus, as a movie, I'll take it over Alice in Wonderland any day of the week.

I do think a Blu-Ray release would look fantastic -- certainly there's got to be some kind of update, because the bare-bones release has a terrible transfer.
