Burbank, CA, May 12, 2009 –- Be the first to own the one of the most anticipated films of 2009 when Watchmen Director’s Cut arrives on Blu-ray and DVD on July 21. From director Zack Snyder, this new cut of the action-packed blockbuster includes an additional 25 minutes of footage not seen in theaters only available on Blu-ray and DVD. Watchmen as seen in theaters will also be available on DVD and ON DEMAND July 21.

Available on the Blu-ray disc of Watchmen Director’s Cut is new interactive technology used for Warner Bros. Maximum Movie Mode, a first-of-its-kind bonus feature that showcases a seamless multi-story presentation of the Director’s Cut. Hosted by Zack Snyder, the feature will offer in-depth scene analysis, picture-in-picture videos from the cast and crew, side-by-side comparisons of the graphic novel and the film, photo galleries and more.

From Director, Zack Snyder (300, Dawn of the Dead) Watchmen stars Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children, Semi-Pro), Malin Akerman (27 Dresses, The Heartbreak Kid), Billy Crudup (Mission Impossible III, Almost Famous), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (TV’s Grey’s Anatomy, Supernatural), Patrick Wilson (Lakeview Terrace, Little Children), and Carla Gugino (Race to Witch Mountain, Night at the Museum).

Warner Home Video has also implemented Facebook Connect to launch with Watchmen Director’s Cut BD-Live. With Facebook Connect, users can interact with their friends from Facebook, update their Facebook status while in BD-Live and invite their Facebook friends to a Live Community Screening.

Watchmen Director’s Cut will be available on Blu-ray for $35.99, 2-disc special edition DVD for $34.99 and the theatrical version of Watchmen on single disc DVD for $28.98.

On July 21, Watchmen theatrical version will also be available ON DEMAND through Digital Cable, Satellite TV, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game consoles. The Director’s Cut and theatrical version can be downloaded for rental or purchase on iTunes and Amazon Video On Demand.

Hmmm. I remember Dave Gibbons saying he recorded an audio commentary for the film... I was really looking forward to that. Wonder if it will turn up on a double-dip down the road?

Looks like the standard 2-disc DVD is getting the shaft. Of course they can't do the "Maximum Movie Mode" on a standard dvd, but there's no excuse for not including the other two features, particularly at that price.

Just for those wondering whether or not they should hold off, it seems that there will be a proper 5-disc deluxe edition coming out in December...

I'm glad this news got out before the release date. Looks like I'll just be renting the director's cut for now.

There is another rumor out there the 5 disc set coming out in December will be BLURAY ONLY...
So DVD fans might need to check in to this...

Arrggh, don't be Blu-Ray only! I'm holding off on a purchase given this info, but we'd better get that final cut...
