Stan Lee Question

Postby Dark Knight » Thu Jun 11, 2009 8:24 pm

I met Stan Lee about 6 years ago at our local yearly Pittsburgh Comic Con. Got a big hardcover book on the history of Marvel comics signed and a cool pic with him. I think then he charged 25.00 and it went to charity.
Well he's coming back this year. It's a three day event but he will only be there on Saturday for five hours and you had to buy advance tickets which this time are now 40.00. My buddy grabbed us each a ticket online and now here's my question.
Only one item per ticket so I have to think what to have him sign. I've got 3 months to think but maybe you all could help. Here's what I got:
The Limited Edition Stan Lee San Diego Comic Con action figure.
A book on Marvel history that has a neat electronic device that let's you hear Stan Lee talk about Marvel comics.
The new huge boxed book "Marvel Chronicles".
I could get the picture I had taken with him last time blown-up to an 8X10 and have him sign it.
I have various famous comic books, but I already have a reprint of the first X-Men he signed.
I wish I had either the FOOM magazine that had the cool Stan Lee picture that had him as all the marvel characters, or there was also a poster of it as well.
Well, what do you all think? Which of these would you pick, or is there something else cooler that I'm not thinking of? I probably have it.
Let me know.

You could mock up your own version of a No-Prize and give him one while you get one signed for yourself. That said, I would look around for one of those cool Marvel Onibus editions of The Fantastic Four and have him sign that.

This would sound weird, but I'd simply shake the Man's hand and thank him for the countless hours of enjoyment I derived from his wonderful creation.
Don't need an autograph.

My buddy has that, I'll suggest that to him.

There are people that want to do just that but because of the time limit, you have to buy an autograph ticket to meet him. I remember last time it was hard to get a picture with him because he was sitting behind a table and I had to stretch towards him while someone took my picture. Couldn't go behind the table next to him. They wanted to keep the line moving.

The mock No-Prize idea of Harold's has got to be the best idea I've ever heard of for a Stan Lee Signature ... brilliant ... other than that ... yeah ... the Fantastic Four Omnibus is probably your best bet, unless you have some silver age comics you want signed ... it's big enough and rare enough that it'd make sense ... go with that. (But get the No-Prize too ... seriously ... that's some funny shit ... I bet it'd make his day)

See, that would be my thought as well.

I've been really lucky in meeting or even spending a few hours hanging out with some of my favorite actors, writers, musicians and filmmakers. From all of that, the only autographs I have belong to Tori Amos, Tony Burton (who gave me his autograph for free and without my asking for it), Ashley Laurence (again, free and without my asking for it) and Barbie Wilde.

Honestly, I'd like people to trust their memories more. To me, the memory of just meeting someone I admire and being able to tell them so or just talk to them for a few minutes about whatever is a lot cooler than an autograph.

That said, I don't have a problem with people who do like autographs, and I think any of those items would be fine.
