BLAST PROCESSING! Episode 19: Halo Is My World of Warcraft

Postby erich » Thu Jul 02, 2009 7:23 am

Erich, Tim, and Adam take the podcast to strange new places this week, covering exotic topics like personal computers, friend codes, and whether modern video games are too complicated to attract new players. In the newly named (thanks to Tim) “Now Playing” segment, the boys talk World of Warcraft addiction, Resident Evil 5 woes, Mario Kart, Picross DS, and Tiger Woods 10. In News, Tim looks forward to Brutal Legend; Adam’s joy about potential PS2 backwards compatibility on the PS3 is dampened by a cynical take on Sony’s business model; and Erich fires back at the Wii “Demo Play” whiners. Dave may not be on the podcast this week, but he’s here in spirit thanks to his most bizarre Symposium Ad Nauseum topic yet: “Video game character you would least like to be trapped with in the boiler room of Bayside High during the senior prom.” Yikes!

Great show guys, and as requested, I thought I should leave you guys a comment. I own all three current consoles, and I agree with you Erich, it is sometimes a pain to have to learn all new controls for every game. Also I'm really looking forward to Brutal Legend as well, it really stood out to me at E3.

Kyle,

I'm just thrilled to hear that someone is listening to the show. Thanks for your comments on the site, and now here on the boards.

Mushy stuff aside, I have to say this week's Brutal Legend talk got me more interested in the game than I had been. At the very least, it makes me want to go back and finish Psychonauts.

And, hey, if you or anyone else on these boards wants to suggest a topic for discussion on the show, let us know. Frankly, we could use the help.

Those are some awesome videos, I especially like the Guitar Heroish way of playing music in the game. I went to pre-order some games yesterday and the sales man didn't seem to interested in taking any for Brutal Legend, he kept talking about that lawsuit.

If you want suggestions, how bout this one. I saw The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 DVD review on the site & it gave me a good idea for a Symposium Ad Nauseum topic: The Best/Worst Cartoons Based on Video Game Characters.

I want to thank the Pixel Verdict crew for using my suggestion for the Symposium Ad Nauseum topic. However, don't count on my help every week. Unlike Kyle, I own none of the current systems & the last next-gen game I played was Metal Gear Solid 3 for the PS2. I'm more of an old-school, stuck in the 16-Bit era gamer.
