The hell? Rodriguez's full-length "Machete" will star...

...Danny Trejo (back as the title character) with Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson and Jeff Fahey playing supporting roles: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=57752.

This will either be "Planet Terror 2" or "Sin City 2" (maybe even "Desperado 2" if we're lucky!).

I am hoping the talks with Betty White's people go well...

How does this get greenlit? It was a fake trailer in a film that bombed spectacularly over Easter weekend. Nobody but us even bothered to notice GRINDHOUSE... WTF?

I do agree the cast looks amazing... for what this is...

If you read the Variety blurb the above link links to it says Rodriguez is doing the film as an indie production (his first since his breakthrough "El Mariachi") and that it starts shooting this week. Guess Rodriguez got his cast to work for scale. 8)

I mean really....how does anyone with a pulse avoid a movie that features both Robert DeNiro & Steven Seagal?

Fox buys the rights to distribute "Machete" theatrically in the States; studio will become new home of Rodriguez' production company: http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/fox-wins-studio-war-for-robert-rodriguez-machete-and-will-be-his-new-filmmaking-home/#more-23299. So, Rodriguez is no longer in business with the Weinstein Bros. but Quentin is.

That and (a) the Weinsteins are pressed-for-cash now since their latest Oscar bait (the musical "Nine") flopped at the Golden Globes (and is likely to get nothing come Oscar time), (b) Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds" made money and has critical buzz (proving, at least in the Weinstein bros' minds, that Tarantino is a safer bet for the future) or (c) they're nuts. Regardless, there's another "Spy Kids" movies coming from Rodriguez under TWC later this year and that will mark the official last project between the two camps.

if Jessica Alba and Robert de Niro will became the star of Machete then there is no problem because they are really a good actor and actress.

I have high hopes for this. The trailer was a hoot and RR needs to get back into the indie mode rather badly. If he can do it quick and well like the 1st Spy Kids then there's no problem whoever he's working for.

Considering this trailer is approximately 1000% less awesome than the original faux trailer, it doesn't exactly bode well for the movie.

It's certainly worrying when that all the good material is taken from the Grindhouse footage.

We're officially beyond the point of Tarandriguez bringing back wasted talent a la Travolta, Grier and Williamson, and into ironic stunt/nostalgia casting. Although I happen to think that Don Johnson could rock this flick. Assuming it doesn't, you know, completely blow. And it looks like it will.

Hey, at least one of Steven's new movies had to escape the direct-to-video curse and end up in theaters (a statistic anomally but hey, whatever). Might as well be this one. :D

And the new footage doesn't match the Grindhouse footage's style one iota. I mean, watching the original trailer, I could imagine Machete being many things. A flick starring Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez was not one of them.

The shot of Don Johnson is the only piece of new footage worth a damn.

I agree with you Steve. I didn't get a really good vibe from the trailer, it looks like he hasn't really kicked the whole "Grindhouse" thing.
