Not sure this is the place for this, but...

Postby the5thghostbuster » Tue Sep 29, 2009 11:36 am

Greetings everyone!

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I just wanted to advertise my new film blog http://experiencecinematic.blogspot.com/. However, if such advertising is not allowed to take place on the forum, I apologize and wont post it again in the future.

Any feedback will be appreciated. The comments section of the blog require me to approve the message before it appears on the site, but mainly that is to prevent spam or anyone who wants to post anything hateful/rude, not to censor other opinions.

Not last I checked. The money laundering schemes was briefly considered, till I realized that criminal activity would probably not go over terribly well with my goal of being an employed teacher ;)

Even less appropriate for my future career. Plus, see my posts on the Polanski's arrest elsewhere on this forum for a good example as to my feelings on such content (i.e. what can I do to help make sure child molesters get life in prison?)

EDIT: I know the post was a joke, btw. Just my tendency to over explain things coming out here!

It was a choice between film as a subject, or painting kitchens. Painting just seemed too exciting a topic to select, so I settled on film.

Nice blog, sir! I liked reading your thoughts on Blue in the Face, in particular. I'll add it to my "Movie Blogs" favorites section.

Yeah, good stuff. Also, you saved me a blind buy of Superman/Batman. It's in my Netflix queue instead.

The other thing that sort of baffles me about both the DC and Marvel animated features, by the way, is how they'll toss in a single "son of a bitch" or whatever just to garner a PG-13 rating. I mean, really? Is it that important to fanboys that these things not be PG? Because the downside is that I'd probably have bought all of the Marvel and DC features for my kid except it's really not cute when a 4-year-old calls someone a bastard because he heard it on a Hulk or Green Lantern video. I'm sure I'm not the only parent steering clear. It seems like a steep financial price to pay for what's usually a single relatively mild profanity.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Mr. Andrew Forbes, I did you one better on your question, and asked the creator or No Stereotypes Allowed, and Autism Activist site (and an individual who is autistic herself) to give you a complete run down of the reasons many autistics have taken offence to the Autism Speaks video. She says it better than I ever could, and has provided many links for more information documenting the problems that the autistic community has had with Autism Speaks, and the video itself.

As for the Marvel/DC Mr. Mancini, I think you have hit the nail on the head with the problems with many of these videos. They seem to be stuck in the middle: not adult enough, while still being too adult for children. Its a tough mix. Personally, I don't mind that the videos are not as accessible for young kids, as their are plenty of more kid friendly versions of the various characters, but I wish the quality was more consistent for the rest of us.

I don't mind the idea of it, either, but I actually think the live action movies already fill that niche. Batman: TAS and Superman: TAS should be the model for DC's and Marvel's animated output. They're the only animated adventures that rival (and often surpass) the live action features, and they work for adults without being inappropriate for children.

While I agree to a certain extent, the nice element of the DTV videos is the chance to see various interpretations of the characters. While I may have issues with Justice League New Frontiers, I know that there is no way Warners live action division would touch it with a ten foot pole.

I guess my other defence is that many of the comics these films have adapted so far were originally themselves designed for older audiences, if not MUCH older audiences then than the films were. Marvels ULTIMATES by Mark Miller is far darker and adult in content than their of the films adapted from them.
