This is movie that came out of Jake Kasdan trying to get a TV version of his criminally underseen movie Zero Effect off of the groud. Really looking forward to seeing it. From DVD Active:

Fox Home Entertainment has announced The TV Set which stars David Duchovny, Sigourney Weaver, and Ioan Gruffud. This Jake Kasdan directed black comedy will be available to own from the 25th September, and should retail at around $27.98. The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track. Extras will include an audio commentary (participants to be confirmed), a Making of The TV Set featurette, and deleted scenes.

I've got to admit that I was underwhelmed. It certainly had its funny moments, but most of the things it deals with thematically have been dealt with more successfully in other films.

It does provide people with a rarely seen inside look into the business of television, but I agree with Neal, it wasn't overly impressive. Jake has a very natural, easy going style to his writing and vision. David Duchovny is David Duchovny, and doesn't offer anything more. Sigourney Weaver gets a chance to sink her teeth into another over-the-top character. Ioan Gruffudd is the one sympathetic character the audience connects with, and yet the ending sells him out. And the other two bright spots are provided by Judy Greer and Justine Bateman. Bottom line: By the time it's over, you just don't care.

Zero Effect is easily one of my favorite films of the 1990s. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I remember enjoying Zero Effect quite a bit, but I need to rewatch it and freshen my memory.
