BrettCullum wrote:Great job Judge Fancy on the BluRay review! Glad to see someone who liked the film a little better than most critics. I thought it was a fun summer popcorn flick with motorcycle robots that KILL people and tough hot looking women. Throw in Christian Bale delivering lines in his patented gruff Camel sponsored scratchy throat voice, and it felt like a BATMAN sequel as well. What does everybody else think of it?
I have the DVD for TERMINATOR SALVATION, and there are no extras and only the theatrical cut. Seems like the studios are now firmly saving the bonus features for the HD format they want us all to start buying. I guess it worked though, because I did get a BluRay player as part of the BLACK FRIDAY deals on Amazon. I feel dirty and broken... kinda like the characters in a post apocalyptic world run by robots...

Reportedly, the role of John Connor was only built up in the script in an attempt to get Bale on board, and in the original draft he was an unseen figure until the final of the film where he was killed. Because nobody know's what Connor actually looks like, Marcus is asked to take his place. Now THAT would have been a vastly superior film.

You're right. In retrospect, maybe I should have gone after the Conner role more, but since it's not the thrust of the film I don't feel it really hurt the movie. I feel that Conner helps move the plot along and does what he needs to do. With the focus on Kyle and Marcus, we're treated to two good actors, acting well in solid roles. And for it being a cinematic abortion, why?

I thought Bale switched roles in pre-production. I heard he was going to be Marcus and then asked to be Connor. That was why all the rewrites including the one where Connor survives rather than Marcus.

I...don't remember calling it a cinematic abortion. I enjoyed it, more so than the T3. But it just feels like there is a much better movie trying very, very hard to escape from what ended up on screen.

No, you didn't. I misread Dan's post and thought he said it was a cinematic abortion. But he didn't either so it's all good.
Either way, it's a very solid film that rocks on Blu.
