Question regarding buying a new HDTV

Postby the5thghostbuster » Fri Jun 11, 2010 6:46 pm

Hey folks!

My parents are going to be buying a new HDTV for their basement, and have been asking for my opinion on what to go with. Now, they are working within a budget (500-700 Canadian, with a little flexibility for going higher), but would prefer to go with an 40 inch set with 1080p image.

Now, this is the one set we are looking at http://www.costco.ca/Browse/Product.asp ... 41&topnav=

however, trying to find a trust worthy review site has been a pain. Anybody know anything about this set, or where I can find a fairly trust worthy look at it?

It will serve their purposes just fine.

The only difference these days is the quality of the bells and whistles and the amount of em present. Pay less ,you don't get Noise reduction and cinemotion and motionflow or color stream or any of that jibba jabba.

you get a TV, that shows stuff.
As the ancient Tibetan philosophy states:"Don't start none... won't be none...".

My advice would be to save a little money. Get a 32 inch 720p set and save the rest for a good set of speakers. Pretty much universally they all have crap for speakers and the 32 720 seems to be the peak of screen per dollar. You could get one for 300 or so american and put the rest to a decent sound bar with a subwoofer.

Something like http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3929425&filterName=Screen+size&filterValue=31-40%26amp%3Bquot%3B&retainProdsInSession=1
