Videodrome on Criterion blu ray?

Postby Andrew Forbes » Wed Jul 07, 2010 2:35 pm

I've heard some whispers about a potential Criterion blu ray release of Videodrome, and the latest newsletter may be providing a hint to that effect. Don't know about the Gnus, but maybe it's a double-hint, as has been done in the past. Or am I on the wrong track? Is there an obscure Wildebeest-on-TV movie that I'm unaware of?

It could be Broadcast News.

However, they're definitely doing Videodrome on Blu-ray. No release date announced yet, but it's up for pre-order on Amazon.

It looks to me like buffalos in a field...

Maybe it is simply a hint they will release THE COMPLETE MONTEREY POP FESTIVAL with BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD as a featured act.

Or more likely WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM.

SILENCE OF THE LAMBS has BUFFALO BILL, but I doubt Criterion will get the Blu-Ray of that one to rerelease.

Why would this cartoon make you think of VIDEODROME? It has pretty much nothing to do with the movie from what I can see.

Over at the Criterion forum the general train of thought seems to lead to James Brooks' Broadcast News although one person suggested Hud and another Howard Hawks' Red River.

I can't think of another movie in which an old-style television set is so central to the film and its imagery, and since I'd already heard that it might be on the way, it didn't seem like that much of a stretch...

Clearly I am afflicted with the stupids.

Genius. You, sir, are not afflicted with the stupids.
