Mmmph, that's the 2000 DVD edition of "North By Northwest" (the recent DVD/BD are much better) and the old two-disc DVD set of "Maltese Falcon" that is going to be released on Blu-ray this October (along with Bogie's "Treasure of Sierra Madre"). So, in his/her own way, whoever gave you those birthday gifts really hates you (although "Coronation Street" and "Sunset Boulevard" are cool)!

The Searchers (Blu-ray) I don't care if the sky isn't the same color blue that it was 50+ years ago.

Nor I, it's a damn pretty disc.

I distinctly remember that particular hue of blue (even though I wasn't alive 50+ years ago), and I'm deeply offended that Warner Bros. has tried to trick me with such a shoddy high definition transfer.

I was alive when this came out and I don't know how anybody, in all honesty, can say that some color this or that doesn't match up with what they saw in the theater when the film first came out. My memory has gotten less reliable as I've gotten older and I suspect their's has too. Such silliness!

Most of the film is meh but the Medusa's lair scene is awesome.

Seeing as I was about 11 when it came out, my opinion of the movie is completely tainted by childhood nostalgia. Plus, even if the story is stupid, the effects compositing is often rickety, Medusa wasn't a titan, and the Kraken wasn't even part of Greek mythology let alone a titan, I dig how Harryhausen knit everything together (for one tiny example, the scene in which Thetis moves Perseus to Joppa has a lot going on in terms of sfx, but it's all about visual coherence; you don't need any sound whatsoever to follow what's happening).

And, yeah, the Medusa scene is among Harryhausen's best work.

Between Clash of the Titans' Judi Bowker and Vida Taylor -- not to mention flicks with Jenny Agutter, Ornella Muti, and Phoebe Cates -- it was entirely impossible to avoid the rapid onset of puberty in the early '80s.

I've never seen any of these movies and my aunt said you must see these and she bought em' for me for my birthday. I think she bought them for herself so she could watch em' on my HDTV. Either way I got DVDs for my birthday so I ain't complaining.

I'll pick up the newer/better versions when they come out.

Coronation Street is one of my favorite shows of all-time. I can't miss an episode. I got hooked during the 2010 winter Olympics (Coronation Street airs 5 nights a week on CBC here in Canada).

Never mind the fact that I'm a fan of the series who has played through all the available North American releases; this sucker is packed with goodness. A sweet 60-page artbook, crammed full of purdy images from this latest release, plus the first three tales in the series; a soundtrack CD that is simply wall to wall Ys awesome (gamers familiar with the series will always laud its phenomenal music); the game itself (badass action-rpg); and a sexy 34" x 12.5" cloth map that I'm seriously considering using as a towel.

It was a region two kind of order from amazon.uk. Steven Moffat & Mark Gattis' modern reinvention of Sherlock Holmes Sherlock series one is on the way and so is Four Lions. Four Lions is the first film from Chris Morris. It's a comedy about four inept jihadists and I can't imagine any company in the US wanting or willing to take this on.
