If that is the storyline, it does stem from the comics, where Bane became Talia's lover/heir to Ra's Al Ghul. Granted, that wasn't the story I was expecting, but it shall be interesting to see Nolan's take on it. Again, assuming it is true.

Diane Lane will play Martha Kent in Snyder's 'SUPERMAN' reboot: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/diane-lane-joins-superman-as-163527.

I feel the same about this as the casting of Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben in the "Spider-Man" reboot: why hire well-known faces rather than unknown older character actors for these iconic roles? Seems like a waste, except now Martha Kent is going to be hotter than ever! 8)

Perhaps with the little-known Garfield and Cavill (well, Garfield's star is rising, but he was basically an unknown when he was cast) playing the lead roles, the filmmakers feel pressure to inject some big names into a lot of the supporting roles. There's also the possibility that these movies are planning on doing more with the parental characters than usual (as in, Uncle Ben and Pa Kent might actually survive the first act this time around).

Also, hiring established actors for supporting roles worked incredibly well for Richard Donner and Christopher Nolan (who based his approach to casting his Batman movies on Donner's Superman), so why wouldn't they hire big names?

I think you just answered your own question.

The more pressing question now becomes--can they find a Lois Lane who's hotter than Diane Lane?

No. Unless they cast Monica and the Bellucci twins.

Remember when Katee Sackhoff stole every episode of the "Bionic Woman" reboot she guest-starred in? Well, Elizabeth Hurley will play a recurring character in David E. Kelley's upcoming "Wonder Woman" TV show: http://www.deadline.com/2011/03/elizabeth-hurley-joins-nbcs-wonder-woman/. Just sayin' and yes, I know this is a TV story on a DC movie thread. Still, it's Liz Hurley! ;-)

I really, really like that Diane Lane is playing the comic-book movie field. And even nicer to see they're going for a Milfy Martha Kent.

... but you guys make an interesting point. No way is Ma Kent going to show up Lois in the looks department.

Per Variety, the three in the lead for Lois Lane are Alice Eve, Diane Kruger, and Rosamund Pike.

Whilst she is indeed some kinda hottie, that fact that she's older than Diane Lane would be a little weird...but you could have the whole Clark/Lois thing getting all Graduate-y....

Snyder must really want to shake things up. A blonde as Lois Lane?

Interesting. Although these ladies would look good brunette-wise too.
