It's not script issues, but the amount of time Aronofsky would've spent shooting overseas. Hopefully they'll get a solid director, since Wolverine stunk to high heaven.

cdouglas wrote:Hmmmm. The trailer looks okay, but I don't really understand the hype. Maybe the red-blooded American male section of my brain is malfunctioning. Vastly better than the Green Lantern trailer, but Thor and X-Men: First Class are the two comic book flicks I'm really looking forward to. That may partially stem from the fact that I'm a fan of Branagh and Vaughn but don't really have strong feelings about anything Joe Johnston's directed.

Dude, I'm Canadian and therefore tend to roll my eyes at rah-rah Americanism, but how can you like superhero flicks and not dig that trailer? Deco! Nazis! Flame-throwers!

Guess Marvel thought Black was too expensive a deal to both write AND direct IM-3.

Hopefully he'll be putting the final polish on it.

Love how they tie it all into the Cuban Missile Crisis, and let me say - the flick looks utterly fantastic.

Word. I don't see anything in the trailer that I haven't seen in the other three X-Men flicks. Let me guess: Xavier tries to convince Eric to help solve the crisis. Moral discussion ensues. Eric saves the day, but U.S is still prejudiced against mutants. He puts on the helmet, becomes Magneto in Dramatic Silhouette. Some kind of montage involving birth of iconic aspects of X-Men. "The War has Only Just Begun." Roll credits.
The broad strokes of the mythos remain the same but everything in the trailers says this is a different spin & vibe on the material. In fact each trailer has been better than the last and I love the idea of a 60s set X-Men movie that revolves around the tensions of the Cuban Missile Crisis and paints Magneto as some kick-ass mutant 007. Of course we know how things are going to eventually end up, it's kind of the built in curse of a prequel to existing material, but the fun will be how the story is told. Anyway, whatever. After Layer Cake, Stardust and Kick-Ass I trust Mathew Vaughan.Andrew Forbes wrote:azul017 wrote:I'm pretty much burned out on X-Men. If it turns out good, then great.

As I said, I have a lot of faith in Mathew Vaughan and I fully realize that being as we are talking about Fox the end result could be something substantially different but speaking as someone who looked at this project with a lot of apathy, the more I see of it, the more I'm curious to see the end result. And the Magneto as 007 thing was something I've seen mentioned in some set reports & script reviews. If they go anywhere near that in the final product, again I'll be pretty happy.

Wow. It had the opposite effect on me. To the extent that I felt any anticipation for First Class, that interview pretty much threw cold water on it. Vaughan's subtext seems to be, "Let me explain why I'm not responsible for this movie being an utter piece of shit."

I just went back and reread the piece with your comments in mind and didn't get that at all. Especially with him making a point of addressing Fox's reputation and saying that was not the case at all on this film. Oh well. We will know in a couple of weeks.
