AGORA - picked it up for $5 because it was the German R2 release. Thankfully it Spruikens de English though ;)
The Town (Blu ray extended cut) - it's a cool flick don't get me wrong. I think the irony was not lost on Ben Affleck that he had his character watching Heat in one scene, a film The Town will inevitably be compared to. Needless to say though, as good as I think The Town is, Affleck is NO Michael Mann.
Narnia: Dawn Treader - I'm in the minority that actually believes Prince Caspian is the strongest Narnia film to date, but whatever. Dawn Treader is pretty cool too :)
Happy April viewing everyone!
Don't worry darling, its just a hat, belonging to a small man of limited means who lost a fight with a chicken!

I have to limit my trips to the cinema because of family commitments, but I made a special effort to see Agora. As with most films, there are criticisms once can make, but it was refreshing to see a film about ideas and things which matter.

Please post a comment or two once you have seen it. Like most films, the visual impact is likely to be more striking on the big screen than on DVD. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I imagine it is not everyone's cup of tea.

Piranha (1978)
The Man from Nowhere
This somehow slipped past my release radar (I probably confused it with recent movies like Nowhere Boy and Mr. Nobody in release schedules). Anyway, I keep hearing good things about this one. It's been described to me as a kind of unofficial version of Man on Fire or Taken imbued with a typically Korean ferocity. We shall see.

Finally caved and got Raising Arizona for $5. I'd been holding out forever on a better (at least animorphic) edition, but I'm just at the point where I want to see it again. I guess this is the cue for them to release a proper edition, now that I spent the money!

First DVD purchase in a few months, since we've gotten Netflix. I feel dirty.
+1. this is very interesting.

I've been on a Walter Hill kick since he was brought up in the blu section. Picked up 48 Hrs. and Johnny Handsome, and ordered The Long Riders and Last Man Standing (which comes packaged with The Last Boy Scout, and more Shane Black is always welcome). I wish there was a decent version of The Warriors on blu.

SELECT CRITERION TITLES FOR 50% OFF. Use the amazon links on the Verdict's reviews to give a few bucks to the site. Here are the Blu-rays that are part of the sale.

Blow Out. I didn't realize before today that the Criterion blu includes De Palma's first feature, Murder a la Mod in 1080p and nicely restored, from the stills I've seen.

Last of the Mohicans
Rob Roy

Hell yeah! Do we finally have a good looking home version of Rob Roy?
As the ancient Tibetan philosophy states:"Don't start none... won't be none...".

It's not reference material, but it's very film-like with good detail and appropriate grain.
