Please help with my new TV question

Postby mattnyd » Fri Aug 24, 2007 3:53 pm

I have the new Vizio 42" hooked up and picked up the cable company's HD box today. The only thing I can't figure out is how to set up the Picture in Picture on the remote. I can see the PIP in the little window (and by the way, on this TV the PIP can go split screen so you can see both channels in half the TV, not just a little window, it's SO cool). But I cannot figure out how to change that second channel to another station.

When I click on the different component options, it has an X next to TV and the two other component choices beneath that (I think the VCR and DVD ) and it won't allow me to select the TV component.
... later that evening, and with the window shades drawn, Mary had a baked potato, two helpings of string beans, and a little lamb.

PIP on some brands of TV's doesn't work with some inputs (it's trial and error). I bought my sister the 32" version of the same TV you have (Vizio) and it won't do PIP when using the component input (red/green/blue cables) but it will do PIP and swap pictures fine with the other inputs (composite, antenna, S-Video, even HDMI). Use the color chart/pamphlet Vizio includes with the TV to guide you and play around with the inputs to see which one's will the Vizio let you swap PIP with (I'm pretty sure component/RGB isn't supported for PIP). Good luck, and hope you're enjoying your new 42" set. What size TV did you have before getting the 42"? I went from a 27" tube to a 47" LCD and since then my life as a TV/movie watcher has been all aces! :D

It's possible that the HD box from the cable company is to blame. I heard that the way some of the boxes are keeps you from the PIP experiance.
