April '12-What did you buy?

Postby hoytereden » Sun Apr 01, 2012 3:23 pm

I know my thread title is plain vanilla compared to Vargas' Ben & Jerry concoctions on the Watching thread but I like to keep it simple. :)
The Descendants (Blu-ray) Hawaii and Clooney, I couldn't resist.

Meant to add that I found a nice 1st edition of Hepburn's book The Making of The African Queen or How I Went to Africa with Bogart, Bacall and Huston and almost lost my mind. Great little book.

At the Cinematic Titanic performance at NJPAC this past Saturday, I got a copy of their latest DVD, "War of the Insects". Awful movie, great riffing.

I 3rd that. The Best Buy Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo version.
BTW, where's the DVD Verdict review? Who did Chief Stailey tick off at Paramount this time? :?
I also picked up:
Warrior (Blu-ray/DVD/DC combo): Does every special edition Blu Ray have to include the useless digital copy? I swear they put it in there just to jack up the price. Can't they give me the option of buying a SE with just the Blu-ray disc.
Drive (DVD)
South Park Season 13 (DVD): One of my favorite seasons with Margaritaville, Kanye West's Fishsticks, & the Glenn Beck/Avatar influenced Dances with Smurfs.

I'm guessing digital copies have no discernible effect on price. When you're cranking them out in the volume major studios are, production and replication costs are probably pennies per unit. Which is why studios always include them: It's a no-cost throw-away they can tout as an extra.

Traveling Saleslady / Miss Pacific Fleet: Joan Blondell & Glenda Farrell Double Feature (1935)
definite b-movies...but it's nice to see the ladies starring instead of supporting someone else.

Havana Widows is another goodie with the dynamic duo of Blondell and Farrell.
