how can folks have forgotten Call of Cthulu... the best example of retro filmmaking...
Coppolla's Dracula...he uses many many in camera and post production special effects, the same methods that would have been used in 1895.
argh....
then there are those silly Larry Blamire Lost Skeleton of Cadavara films..do these RUN anywhere?
