ELEMENT: AM & PM YOGA FOR BEGINNERS

The Charge

Realize all the benefits of yoga.

The Case

There are "yoga" DVDs and then there are YOGA DVDs. Aerobic instructors who are jumping on a bandwagon make the former. Elena Brower makes the latter.

This disc contains two complete practices; one for the morning and one for the evening. Each are about half an hour in length and require nothing but you and a yoga mat (or a comfortable, non-slip surface). The AM practice focuses on invigorating and toning moves. The PM centers on relaxation and tension release. Both concentrate heavily on connecting breathing with movement, which I believe should be a main component in all yoga.

Beginners are the target audience and, although they may have to work up to some of the moves, AM & PM is excellent for those wanting to experience yoga for the first time. Brower demonstrates the poses and gives fairly thorough instructions, slowly moving you into and out of the positions. Even those of us who are not brand new to yoga will enjoy having this DVD in our fitness library.

The on screen scenery -- lush greenery, flowers, waves -- is as relaxing as the practice. The full frame transfer does it justice. The 2.0 Stereo track is of the same high quality, appropriate music and clear instructions. It also includes closed captioning for the hearing impaired.

The Verdict

This disc is set free to help you realize all the benefits of yoga!
